Long time Michigan recruit who was dropped by Harbaugh listed ND with some interest and does hold an offer, he's listed as a top 250 player with 4 stars. ND going to get in on this kid? Or no room at the Inn?

He was their first commitment and they have gotten better recruits since. So Harbaugh stopped communication and let him "de-commit" so he could give the scholarship to someone they covet more. Slimy.

Someone retweeted an article from the kids hometown on Twitter with quotes from his dad:

1. Family took the high road mostly but they are not pleased. Looks bad on JH/UM basically saying they found someone better they hadn't expected to be available.

2. They immediately contacted OSU and ND, and were told in dads words that "both said they would have been interested but had their guys and didn't want to force someone else out like he was pushed out at UM." Dad said he really respected that.

For me, I wouldn't have told him no, I would have gotten his transcripts and said we have no guaranteed spots now but you never know, come check us out just to vet us and maybe a spot opens late.

Apparently he does have an offer from Oklahoma and will visit so I think the kid will be fine.

hope the kid lands in a better place (odds are in his favor)

besides, couldn't Harbaugh use the schol that he won't be using for Jones!

AND

Harbaugh cut another 'commit' besides Swenson! 2 cuts so far, more to come?

Apparently he committed to Hoke and not Harbaugh. This would have been OK for Harbaugh to do early in the process but this late in the process is pretty much a jerk move.

Kiante Enis "de-committed" also today. Harbaugh may have trouble coming back into some of these High Schools.

I generally have no issues with Harbaugh, but this has not been a good last few days for him. He's going to need to better understand the recruiting power he has at Michigan that he didn't have at Stanford, and act accordingly. You can't just be dumping long time commitments 10 days before signing day because somebody better came along and you need the scholly room.

Totally agree w/posters but in all reality recruiting is a knife that cuts both ways. De-commiting at last minute, etc. leaves teams in the lurch. Feel bad for this young man and do agree that Harbaugh, for all his excellent coaching is a goof. Fitz and NU have offered too. Much better place for him.

Kid has a good offer list. Listed at 6'5" 300 lbs. While Michigan may like the other recruits better, I can't understand why you'd pass on this kid. Hope everything works out for him. Must be devastating to have earned the offer to go to your dream school, commit, and then some jerk takes away your offer last minute.

the Michigan faithful are mixed on this one. Nobody likes to see a kid get his scholarship offer pulled so close to signing day. I think everyone can agree. On the other hand, it's probably not as nefarious as you want to believe. Sam Webb and Brian Cook who follow UM closely suggest Swenson was told at start of fall that he'd have to have a strong senior year to hold on to his offer. It's clear UM offers are in high demand, and that said demand is growing coming down the stretch. Looks like it got to the point where a decision had to be made. Again, this is happening far too late in the process for most of us to feel good about it BUT this is the age we live in. Also worth noting that Swenson was a legacy Hoke recruit and that UM may well have done him a favor. Why is it more honorable to take a kid who the staff thinks has little chance of succeeding? Perhaps it's better in the long run for everyone involved to part ways before he ever sets foot on campus which eliminates a transfer down the road and the accompanying 1 yr sitting out. Looks to be a good player who will easily land on his feet at another fine school. Good luck to him. Hope he succeeds wherever he lands. And let's not confuse this with running a kid off your team AFTER he sets foot on campus and PRIOR to his four years.

Harbaugh is in NFL psychie, he still thinks you 'cut' kids to get under the roster limits!

how exactly do you "cut" a kid who was never on your team? Big difference between SEC-type cutting of kids on a roster versus pulling an offer to sign an LOI.

There's a very simple fix that would cure all of this nonsense. Simply have the student-athlete sign the LOI the day he commits. That way coaches won't hand out non-commitable or revocable offers and kids won't flip. Until then, it's fair game on both sides. Nothing is final until the LOI is inked.

I think the reality of the situation, which as you say may very well not be as nefarious as it appears on the surface, is not as important as how future recruits, parents, and high school coaches will perceive it.

Swenson's own fault ! Wouldn't "spoon" or let Jimmah go to class with him.

see this is the difference! UM fans like Bama, FSU and USC fans want to win and they do not care how they win as long as they win!

ND fans want to win AND it matters to them how they win!

If it was based of his failure to preserve the spot with his senior year performance why wasn't he told it would be best if he looked elsewhere in December after his senior year was over? Not that any of what you said actually makes the situation look better but that part just doesn't make sense.

If Kelly did this, you'd be raising a stink and everybody on this board knows it. This is a homer post so you might as well own it dude.

Top 250 player and a 'need' for Michigan!! I don't understand this one!!

Sam Webb and Brian Cook? As valid of a source as Mike Valenti for MSU.
I understand your desire to win. Heck, I read many posts on here wanting to lower academic standards. Almost the same as moral standards. We all want to win. Some of us even deflate balls.

sleepover did not go as planned? (twin beds?)

Brian Cook's site mgob!og is legit. If you compare Hothead Valenti to either of these two, pretty clear you don't know what you're talking about

Romulator if he was told in order to keep his scholarship he needs to have a great senior year. then at the point he should have been told you do not have a scholarship period. not half in half out. this is wrong no matter what school or what coach does this. Fans on your site can justify but they are not being honest. this is true even with your justification. The problem this kid has the inn is full at most programs he wanted to sign with, Now I hope he can get into a school that appeals maybe a northwestern,

Mr. Khaki Pants now has another strike against him with this and being a creep who sleeps with recruits.

FWIW, Swenson was told in November that he wouldn't have an offer unless he came and worked out for the coaches. There was some question on whether he was going to do this or not. Communication on both sides was poor.

The kid has offers from Wisconsin and Arkansas. I think he will be fine.
