This is the guy I have wanted from the get go outside of bigger names like Aranda and strong which were long shots.... this guy has shown production in every year with the talent at wake forest.
wake gave up 35 points to Clemson and 44 i believe to Louisville and 33 to nc state. and 21 to Delaware. Is he really a step up?This is the guy I have wanted from the get go outside of bigger names like Aranda and strong which were long shots.... this guy has shown production in every year with the talent at wake forest.
This guy has done well at Wake. May not be the flashy name people would like to hear but would be a great hire. I just hope he's not judged on this first season cause I still believe it will be rough due to DL depth and talent issues.
The TOP you speak of has nothing to do with the offensive line. It should but it doesn't with BK at the helm. You might be right but look at the players who return on defense who played last year.
DL: Tillery; Cage; Bonner; JHayes; DHayes; Trumbetti; Okwara; Kareem; Taylor and lets through in MDT.
LB: Morgan; Coney; Bilal; Martini and Jamir.
CB: Watkins; Vaughn; Love; Pride; Coleman and hopefully Crawford.
Safety: Tranquil; Studstill; Elliott and Ferttita. Hopefully Perry and Morgan show they belong.
No idea if the newbies coming in will add much but I think it would be tough to break into tbe rotation of the existing players.
I have a hard time thinking a better DC won't get good production out of the crew. Also, I am speculating a more experienced OL means better TOP limiting the time our defense is on the field.
not a good hire....
what he has done at WF is admirable..Is there something abbout his resume that alarms you?
Daelin Hayes and Khalid Kareem will have big upcoming seasonsThis guy has done well at Wake. May not be the flashy name people would like to hear but would be a great hire. I just hope he's not judged on this first season cause I still believe it will be rough due to DL depth and talent issues.
So you say it's coaching that matters and I'm here talking about a defensive coordinator. Which has an impact on half of the gameSeriously , does it even matter who they hire? Kelly is still the coach. This much I know. ND is a slightly above average football team with Kelly as the coach. Really, that's all anyone needs to know. Coaching matters. If you don't think it does, look at Temple. Back to back 10 win seasons. Believe me, no one on the planet even had that on their radar. But they got a coach who made the players believe and play at a high level. With that kind of coaching at ND, I have no doubt they would be a perennial power again.
Wake Forest was ranked 39th in the nation in overall defense last year out of 125 teams. I'm pretty sure he's not working with the talent that would be at ND there eitherwake gave up 35 points to Clemson and 44 i believe to Louisville and 33 to nc state. and 21 to Delaware. Is he really a step up?

And how barren is the Wake roster? Coaches don't hire coaches based upon statistics, they know how a coach does, or has done, with what he has to deal with.wake gave up 35 points to Clemson and 44 i believe to Louisville and 33 to nc state. and 21 to Delaware. Is he really a step up?
Did you watch these games??? The defense had no help from the offense. They played well for 3 quarters, then ran out of gas because offense couldnt move the chains.wake gave up 35 points to Clemson and 44 i believe to Louisville and 33 to nc state. and 21 to Delaware. Is he really a step up?

I didn't see those games. I get the points all of you are making but, how many times have we as a fan base got excited over an assistant coach. There we're some excited over Gilmore and Van Gorder. I remember seeing those posts but, not who posted them. So Wake was in those games right up until the end. Some might say they collapsed . Hope you are all right about this coach. I've just seen too many assistant coaches disappoint to get excited over one.Did you watch these games??? The defense had no help from the offense. Do you work for the ND PR department? This is the guy I have wanted from the get go outside of bigger names like Aranda and strong which were long shots.... this guy has shown production in every year with the talent at wake forest.
Do you work for the ND PR department?
Dear Lord, the guy has proven squat.
PS There isn't a person on the planet that believes that the answer to ND's defensive problems is at Wake Forest. It is idiotic.
The thing with Van Gorder was that he hadn't had any recent success. His success was over 10 years ago at UGA. He was bad as the falcons DC and at Auburn as well. The DC from Wake actually has some really good defenses look what he did to last year's ND squad with all the stars they had on offense. If Wake would have had am offense that year it would have been a different game.I didn't see those games. Yes, this guy is battle tested in the crucible of flag football.Stop all your naysaying cgvr ! Or you might end up missing like Purse ! Just saying...
You may be right. It looks like they had a tough mid-season schedule. Florida St., Army, Louisville, and Clemson.Did you watch these games??? The defense had no help from the offense. They played well for 3 quarters, then ran out of gas because offense couldnt move the chains.
Where did purse goStop all your naysaying cgvr ! Or you might end up missing like Purse ! Just saying...
The answer to ND's defensive problems won't come from Wake Forest, interesting. Dave Amanda probably the best coordinator in college football was at Hawaii and then Utah State? I think Urban Meyer started his head coaching career at Bowling Green. But, yeah nothing good would ever come out of Wake ForestDo you work for the ND PR department?

We will be taking whoever we get at this point! To my thinking, Elko is exactly the kind of DC we should go after. Wake Forest is an excellent place for a guy to build his resume and prove his chops, which Elko has done. Sure, I would prefer Wilcox from Wisconsin, but Elko is in the conversation when discussing the up and coming DC's in Div I. Hope Kelly pulls the trigger and hires this guy, and hope the University's penchant for taking a long time to complete it's due diligence doesn't temper the enthusiasm and possible impact on recruiting.
Yep, we are due to catch lightening in a bottle. The answer to ND's defensive problems won't come from Wake Forest, interesting. Exactly, we are on probation, rudderless and considered a laughingstock. We will be taking whoever we get at this point!
Agreed on swarbrick.....CGVR...no argument that Kelly deserves to be fired several times over for the many reasons discussed here non stop for several weeks. However, Jack owns the hit the university and program are taking for the way he has handled the extension, his decision to keep the fans twisting in the wind, and his arrogant narcissistic disregard for the alumni and players and recruits and fans. Given this, I think we will be fortunate to get a DC of Elko's caliber, and yes I will celebrate this if it comes to past.
