Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott was cited for multiple offenses stemming from a crash prior to leaving for the Fiesta Bowl on Sunday afternoon.

The Buckeyes star was cited driving under suspension, operating without a license, and failure to control.

He told police the accident was the result of him hydroplaning out of control.

No one else was in the vehicle.

Stay with ABC 6/FOX 28 for more in this developing story.

He will play....you have to break the law more than that to sit out a game.

Key phrase in this story is "prior to leaving for the Fiesta Bowl on Sunday afternoon." He is already in Arizona and he will play. You'd have to rob a bank at osu to even sit for a half, let alone a game.

Let's not condemn the kid just yet, without all the facts. I hate OSU as much as anyone, but jumping to any conclusion on this is just plain wrong

I, for one, was not condemning him. I was just pointing out that he is already in Ariz. and so the point, in my opinion, is moot. he will play whether he did anything or not. this is osu after all.

Thought the board had more Libertarians. So when The Man says you need a piece of paper everybody on the board gets in lock step if our opponent is affected.

Driving with a suspended license. La-dee-GD-dah. What punishment would be proper?

So your take on it, is that if a player breaks a state law, while attending a state school on a state paid scholarship they shouldn't suffer for it, on the field. Imagine the image this sends to younger players.

Interesting.

I can't imagine what it would take for you to believe an ND player would need to do to miss a game.

Either way, what we think doesn't matter, the school that controls him has issued their statement, and the game will go on. ND was already planning on seeing him, so this doesn't really change anything.

I also asked what punishment would be proper and got no response.

They don't pay me the big dollars to answer that question. However as an overall fan of the sport, and someone that was on here outspoken that I wanted Floyd under a stiffer punishment, and Rees to never touch the field again, after their off the field incidents. I would think you would want to use something like this to show the younger players that following the rules is important, and no matter who you are. You will play by the same rules as someone else, or you won't be part of the play at all.

I mean that is the same lessons we teach our kids at home. Why wouldn't you expect the same of them on this stage??

I don't know the facts, and these would influence the degree of punishment. If his license was suspended due to multiple prior driving voliations, I would keep him out of the game. If the license was suspended because he failed to renew it, he would play.

Yeah, yeah....stop lights and traffic rules = tyranny....

No comment as to alcohol or drugs. Ultra fit, fantastic reflexes, etc. = one car accident? Don't think so.

Cover up?

To me, this appears a lack of institutional control. ND has surely seen this in the last few years. Players break rules with no regard to their consequences. Whether or not he plays or does not play is less the question - the better question would be "are the players doing what is expected of them"? We all saw the meltdown from OSU after the MSU loss...then they came back to win against UM...now they are again pushing that envelope. It raises the question - who's bigger...the university and policies or the players doing their thing in a fractured way.

Simply stated: Urban has a mess on his hands and the last time that happened to him at UF he left coaching for health reasons.

There was another car involved with 2 passengers. He also had unpaid violations.

Crap...don't get me started on 'unpaid violations'. That's the federal gov't forcing states to 'share' their info with all other states. Why would violations in Ohio carry over to Arizona? The feds are forcing states to do this so they can be in control rather than states. Read an article on Missouri residents no longer having access to federal property because their licenses were not 'standard'. Look at your driver's license and see if there is a star in a circle in the upper right-hand corner. If so then you are IAW the feds. That means TSA can abuse you under the "(un)Patriot Act".

Accident occurred in Ohio prior leaving for Arizona.

Man you were on a rant. I agree with you by the way.
When I get on a rant, it doesn't matter who you are. We could be best friends and I will lay you down low. And, we could be worst enemies and I will treat you like a friend. I get super passionate at times (most times I don't care) and look out

If the kid crossed state lines to avoid arrest then the Fed Marshalls or the FBI could arrest him prior to the game. LOL.

Why is his license suspended?
Irishjohn, CORRECTION: It was JT Barrett, QB, was pulled over for avoiding a DUI checkpoint, maybe underage consumption, Oct. 31, 2015. Coach Meyer suspended him next game. Ezekiel E. was cited for speeding in June 2014, did a diversion program and charged a $126 fine., He claims he did not know his license was suspended for this and will fight the charge in court. I apologize for mixing up the 2 players.
Happy and Blessed New Year.
