A great school like Duke has gravitated to the "one and done" recruiting to compete against the big boys. Do they figure those defections in when compiling grad rates? Was told their grad rate is as high as ND but our kids stay and they declare early. Bad math?

Alot of those kids come back and take classes in the offseason. One and done players figure into grad rates. The grad rates look at whether or not a kid graduated on time (within 5 years I believe, maybe 6).

Good question. There should be a penalty to pay though for a disregard of the rules. It was long rumored that Corey Maggette never attended classes during the second semester of his one and done season. Thus, the apparent 0.0 GPA. It's great if he came back and graduated, but the wins that year should be vacated. Can't have it both ways. Seems like it'd be pretty simple to do an audit on his time there. Actually, what am I thinking? The ncaa would never touch coach K. Duke and UNC are such frauds.

There was a time when Coach K would not hang a banner if all the kids didn't graduate. Times have definitely changed. That's a big reason why one of the greatest, Coach Knight left.

For the most recent numbers Duke has reported a 100% grad rate for basketball players according to the NYT.

But that was before this year … and possibly several freshmen will bolt to the NBA. Don't think they'd return to graduate within 5 or 6 years.

It's called "selling out."

How can Duke claim 100 percent grad rate when they've had 5-6 players leave early. They skew the numbers, 100% of the players who stay, graduate. Not 100 of everyone who starts in the program. To beat Kentucky and Carolina , Duke became just like them.

I mean there is no way of knowing how many kids will come back and graduate over the course of the the next 6 years. I don't understand how the argument "I don't believe they will come back and graduate" is logically sufficient but ok.

My bigger issue is that everyone who wants to complain about the one and done players, where do you think they should go? If they aren't allowed in the NBA and they don't want to stay in college ball for more then a year do you believe every college team should just shun them?

Duke's grad rates have never been even close to falling below 95% for APR purposes. The NCAA doesn't allow you to only report the players that stay, they look at everyone. I feel like if you want to throw shade on Duke there are a lot of reasons to do so other then the grad rates.

Yes, Classic your right. You either change or move on. BTW off subject Troy Murphy was on Money Honey yesterday on Fox Biz Channel. He's at Columbia right now finishing his degree. He spoke about the problem of athletes coming into big cash young and being broke later in life.

I read yesterday that in '13-14 ND had a 99% BB grad rate. Duke was at 98%.

Pretty damn good.

I think it was just in the last few years that Coach K started bringing in the one-and-dones. So it wouldn't be reflected in their grad numbers yet, since the most recent numbers would reflect the freshman classes from 6 years ago.

Because finishing 75% or more of your credits, while attending only part-time, would most likely require more than 5 years.

Coach K had to change with the times if not be left in the dust. Personally, I don't think guys going pro early should factor into graduation rates.

I feel like they should either let kids go pro after hs or make them stay 3 years like football... The 1 year rule isn't helping anyone.

43% of African American kids graduate from FSU teams. Not bad for a school as misguided as FSU.

what I want to know is why there are so many "one and done" caliber players coming out of high school in the last five years as compared to the past when all but a few youngs needed a season or two to get ready to play at the sweet 16 or final four level.

"43% of African American kids graduate from FSU teams. Not bad for a school as misguided as FSU."

^^^^What does this have to do with Duke's Men's Basketball?^^^^

Absolutely NOTHING! Just the typical hijack attempt by this psychopath. What good is a thread if he can't turn it into an FSU flame fest?

Sure glad he's yours (even if you don't claim him).
