Drew Pyne looking like Drew Brees

He throws a really nice ball. He goes through the progression very well. The 50/50 ball others are saying it was a bad throw but how many times do QBs make that throw and trust the WR to make the play?

First downs and TD's.

Imagine how good he'd be if he started last year. Except his coach was looking for another job...

Only a moron would compare a partial game’s stats to a seasons stats
You're comparing him, remember you thought he should be the starter?

Only a moron would wait until the end of the year to compare this years starting QB to last years.

Only an incredibly ignorant moron would declare and/or support the idea that Pyne should have started ahead of Coan last year. That would be you JohnO

I have been a fan of Drew Pyne since the Wisky game last year. I thought he should have started after that game instead of Coan, but I was a pretty lonely voice on that one as I recall. That isn't a knock on Coan, I just like the way Drew Pyne plays the game and the intangibles he seems to bring to the position. I think the team really likes playing behind him, which is why I also thought we would be fine after Buchner went down. After a little bit of a shaky first half in the Cal game, Drew has been great.

Drew is not athletic nor is he anywhere near as good as Ian Book was at picking up first downs with his feet when the situation dictates it. But Drew doesn't get happy feet in the pocket and he is really accurate when you give him some time to throw. Most of his passes are tight spirals and more often than not the passes have perfect placement. Plus, I think Drew sees the field well and he is getting better at going through his progressions. He doesn't have a hose for an arm, but he has adequate arm strength. The passes tonight to Mayer were examples of that. The TD pass to Jayden Thomas was a bit on the lucky side, but it was a nice back shoulder throw by Pyne where only the receiver was going to be able to come down with the ball.

I am feeling pretty good about our QB situation right now. Drew is going to get better with more game experience. A lot of posters here have sold him way short.

Another efficient game for Pyne. 22/28, 262 yds, 3 TDs, 1 INT off the deflection. He's playing very well.

And one of his incompletions was the perfectly thrown screen pass to Chris Tyree that Chris unfortunately dropped. That one hurt, too, because there was a lot of open field in front of Chris. It had the potential to be a big gainer.

I was happy to see how Jayden Thomas played in the second half. Hopefully Drew can develop some rapport with our WRs, so that Mayer doesn't have to bear so much of the load.

In between the rapin and the murderin, I think your team is playing tonight isn't it Purse?

I have no idea who “purse” is.

Evidently you’re as bad at identifying posters as you are in evaluating QB’s

This has to be a joke. Pyne had all day to throw 12 yards and still missed quite a few receivers.

22-28 with the Tyree drop, the Mayer drop on 3rd down and the tipped pass that got intercepted … so that leaves 3 other incompletions. The overthrow to Mayer on the 2pt conversion was one, can’t remember the other 2 … the pass to Holden Staes was my favorite completion of the night though many well placed balls to pick from.

so all of a sudden we have great WRs making up for a innaccurate QB?

Sorry nitwit but when someone is 22 of 28 and that with 2 drops and a deflection, no one with a brain is going to believe your crap.

He is developing more each week he is out there. He looks like he benefited from the bye week more than any other player.

Im looking forward to him getting the WR more involved moving forward, but being able to effectively feed your primary target the way he did Mayer last night is a great sign also

I'd take someone with eyes and a stop watch.
He had 10 seconds to throw and even our guys can get open against BYU.

You made a great point with undeniable facts.

But since when do facts convince morons ?

LOL..
That particular coach was absolutely perfect with the QB position.
It was guaranteed he'd start the wrong QB unless a child could see after nearly 20 games (Wimbush)
And or forced to change due to injury(Zaire-Kizer)

He was perfect at always starting the wrong QB

Couple of things....

Let's see how happy those feet are after the Clemson game.

He's had all day to throw the ball and he can thank Mayer for that. Mayer commands so much attention teams are reluctant to sell out on a blitz. Mayer is a tough enough matchup playing honest.

Clemson will be coming from everywhere at Pyne and we'll see how settled he stays.

Accuracy?
So far he's been fairly accurate except when rolling to his right.
Notice they haven't run that play any more after a throw into the dirt and one sailed pass over head.

The time he has is almost like 7 on 7 skeleton so I'd hope he is accurate.

We need to see him under duress and getting racked a few times and how he responds

In the first half
I’m happy to see him play well. Everyone seems to be forgetting 3 things
1- our O line sucked first 2 games
2- Buchner never had the protection that Pyne has now
3- Buchner beat him out

So while I’m happy with his progress, anointing him as something special is premature

but TEs can’t be “game breakers” I thought? 😉

Drew Pyne was the #8 overall QB in the 2020 class. He was even disrespected in the rankings due to his height and still was top 10. I can name at least 3 kids ranked above him that are definitely not as good from 2020. Only one that is certainly better is CJ Stroud. I expect he could finish the season at least that good if not better by his senior year.

Have you ever heard of Bryce Young....
