Do you guys think ND can get to the Alabama or Ohio State level?

Brian Kelly said that Alabama is the gold standard. I believe Ohio State is as well.

What does ND need to do in order to get to that level in your opinion?

Pers beat me to it but I will add does OP mean in arrests or graduates in basketweaving.

I would not say OSU is at the Alabama level. Alabama won a championship undefeated and absolutely dominated a healthy number one rated ND. They were, by far, the best team of the decade. They have since beaten several top ten teams.

OSU plays in a poorer conference, lost to VTECH in their championship year, and nearly lost to Penn St. as well. They beat Alabama, yes. However, the Oregon team they beat was missing 3 of its 4 top playmakers. I would not say that OSU team was one of the top five or even ten teams of the decade.

This year they have one game in which a team they play is rated in the top 20, MSU at home.

As far as how close ND is to Alabama, I think they are close enough that vast improvement in DE and DT recruiting, and improvement in the special teams would get them close. No doubt, most of us recognize the need for better players at the defensive line positions, made field goals, and returning the ball on special teams. The one factor that would get them over the top - leadership. Let's hope it is vastly improved this year.

If we lose a few more players and turn away when players commit crimes, then we get there

Ton of reasons IMO why that is a very difficult dynamic for ND but I'll be short with my opinions.

1. The era of 3 and done to the NFL--------that kid isn't interested in many cases in a school like ND.

2. Stanford happened------school in a loaded state HS football wise who can also recruit nationally where a kid can get a great degree and play closer to home in better weather.

3. The best HS football is now in the Southeast/Southwest part of the country and that kid grows up a fan of the SEC.

4. Overscheduled------look at the OSU schedule week to week and look at ND schedule------ but we're independent and it is what it is.

What has OSU proven? They can almost run the table against a pu$$y schedule? Bama proved themselves. No one in the big ten has.

yup. I mean what's so impressive about destroying Michigan State (top 5 finisher in 2013 and 2014), Wisconsin, Alabama and Oregon in a 7 week period? lmfao

The best answer I can possibly think of is this.....how many osu/bama players could NOT have gotten into Notre Dame no matter the recruiting.
All those athletes they are getting you can't tell me they all could have been accepted at Notre Dame .?.!

That being said, can I say that every coach since Holtz has blazed the recruiting trail like Saban and Tressel/Meyer? Not even close.

Kelly has done a great job recruiting and closed the gap on that. Is he there yet? Not yet. Is he close? Yes. We can now be competitive with anyone again. At the skill positions on offense we can score on anyone. We have some real speed on defense but we need more.

BVG needs to simplify his chaotic schemed defense some and play Jaylon on the Outside.

ND would need to be on the cutting edge of acquiring talent (like ND was in the 1920's & 1940's) nowadays the SEC is that, Ohio State is the one Midwest school built like a SEC team

that's not ND today

that being said ND might make the playoffs and if things fall their way...who knows???

This question is just too easy. If ND wants to get to OSU or AL's level, and I could certainly throw in U of Indiana, they simply need to lower their academic standards and stick their hands out for help from the US taxpayers to keep the University in business. I don't believe that will happen, but good try.

ND is already there. Alabama has gotten stomped the last two years in bowl games. tOSU got exposed last year by mediocre teams on their sked. ND cannot let the bright lights and big city of a championship 'awe' them. They earned their way and need to take what is theirs to take - The National Championship.

ND has won more NCs than these two combined (subtracting out Alabama's claims to championships they have never earned). Be ND - We are ND!

If I could start a 'motto' for ND then it would read - 'BE' NOTRE DAME!!!

I hope some of you guys are right. Growing up in Indiana, I would like to see ND become a big boy in CFB again.

IU fans need to worry about beating teams like Ball St., Ind. St. and the other bottom feeder in the state in Purdue.

Agreed but this thread is about ND.

Nah, this thread is about you. It is another of your blatant flames in which you attempt to put ND in a bad light. You may think that we are all as stupid as you, and that we don't comprehend what you are doing. But you are wrong.
