I think their defense will be fine. I truly think the defense had the wind knocked out of their sails by Zaire going down. They will regroup and be a strength.

On offense going forward I would not mind seeing them put Kizer under center and go to a power run game behind the offensive line and play a play action passing game. He is not going to fool anyone with the read option so teams will be able to key on Procise and not fear Kizer pulling it back and taking it himself.

Do you think this will be looked into or will they continue with the same gameplan? I'm interested in what some of you think. Go Irish!!!

Can't run power football without a FB on your roster. They have to stay in the spread and just throw the ball more.

ND can easily convert to a power running team, in fact, they are really that now. They have a tremendous OL and a stable of great backs. Don't count Kizer out, he just needs reps and has a rocket arm.

The Irish will have a fine season.

Notre Dame already is a power run team. Power, counter, inside zone...those are all downhill run plays.

I'm not very optimistic. Kizer looked very average passing the ball and quite uncomfortable running the read option. Va was able to pinch both ends off the edge and DK never kept the ball. Procise was beaten to a pulp with Kizer in the game.

I do agree that the defense was beginning to so signs of life until Zaire got hurt. I think it stunned the entire team. Not to mention all of the wounded ducks their QB was able to complete. I thought I was watching Denard Robinson!

Oh brother...*rolls eyes*. You mean Power like Stanford and Arkansas? The offense is averaging 36 points per game. The Kelly QB'S will be fine. The Weis tomato cans Crist and Hendrix are long gone.

1 - I see you didn't mention Clausen
2 - Kelly signed Hendrix.

You've got to be the stupidest waste of space on this board..

Brian Kelly coached Tommy Rees to a 21-9 record. And #5 to a 19-6 record. And Zaire to a 3-0 record. And Charlie Weis lead the best HS QB in the country and a future NFL QB to a 13-21 record. Still want to talk Clausen dumb ass?

You call me stupid yet you call out Coach Shaw and Coach Patterson. (Mr HS coach at least on this board)

Though tell me with all those wins the you've mentioned from those QBS how many top 10 finishes did they bring?

Let me tell you. About as many as Weis

Oh yea I was smart enough to know coach Kelly signed Hendrix

Hey DIP, don't mess with the "Coach" of this board - floridairish. It's not enough that Procise was averaging nearly 10 yards a carry today. He would have pulled the ball out of his hands and had Zaire and then Kizer put it up 50 times. Hey Coach Florida, how long before teams wise up and start bracketing Fuller and take away that option for Kizer. I suppose you're game plan for GT next week is to go Air Coryell with Kizer. Notre Dame should have won today going away. Next week they will probably have their hands full, but should still win. I wonder how you think Kizer will fare when he's thrown into Death Valley against Clemson and Venables. Oh wait, I already know. Put that ball in the air 40-50 times, right.

You don't change the offense. Kizer will run less because he is not as effective a runner. Plenty of weapons. Spread the ball around.

We'll see how that works next week.Penn. GT is a ball controlled offense. It will limit ND opportunities on offense it ND goes 3 and out not to mention the redzone offense which is stillblacking. GT is not lacking there the see the need for a blocking back/TE when a short yardage offense is needed

Can a Zebra change from stripes to spots - Kelly only knows the slow tempo spread - its his DNA.

If my aunt had nuts. .. She would be my uncle.
ND just beat a decent team fired up to play their home opener. ND played just well enough to win.
GT will be a challenge. But I don't think they are great. Paul Johnson isn't Bear Bryant. The offense will have to be very efficient but ND has more weapons and win. Can you proof your posts?

According to coach until you've been in the crucible of calling plays in a high school football game you have no basis to challenge any offensive decision kelly makes.

Quite frankly yesterday was a stinker by any stretch of the imagination.

Robinson 1 catch wtf? Against fsu he was a destructive force. He's a natural mismatch.

The current tight ends equaled their pass catching season total from last year yesterday with one catch.

Don't we have perhaps the nation's best play making FR TE in Alize Jones? Is there a reason we can't get this guy in the mix and boost his confidence?

Going for 2 to start the game....wtf was that about? Did kelly say why he tried that abomination?

That's as lousy a call as I've seen this year....

I wonder if Zaire would still be playing if we had gone for 1....."butterfly effect"....

All in all take the W, but that was a very splotchy effort.

We were very very lucky to escape.

This team still seeks a consistent identity.

PS Newsome has some serious power....

No hillofbeans let's keep running the IZ play on 3rd and 4th and 1 and keep getting stuffed. Let's not Spread the field with play makers and get the ball to Fuller.

How soon before they "bracket" Fuller? First of all you don't even know what bracketing is and secondly if teams double Fuller, that leaves opportunities for all the other skill players. That is the difference between Internet Football and Real Football. You and your boy DIP wad are Clueless. Stop speaking you're embarrassing yourself.

Well, the only reason ND was going for 2 was because they scored on a fake FG. But you cartoon characters have nothing to say about that call because it worked.

BK was obviously sending a message to his team that ND was going to be aggressive and unafraid. The best play making TE in the nation? Based on what his HS tape? Do you really think because you watch a Rivals highlight tape you know something about football? LMAO!!!! Looks like you're the next member of the buffoon club...

Speaking of embarrassments I was wondering when you would spout your nonsense. BTW I guess youve seen the Stanford score. Or we would of seen more of your insite on coach Shaw

So fake FG = 2 pt conversion (that must be a florida thing).

By aggressive you mean QB drawls with no blocking backs or a back up with a little experience? Well how did that turn out ?

First coach Kelly isn't ARA

Second who said Va is a decent team (UCLA dismantled them with a freshman QB)

Third GT will control the ball. It's what they do. Eat the clock ND must be smart with their possession.

Fourth ND is poor at redzone offense and that's being kind

Fifth who says ND has more talent

Can you disprove this?

I had added FR at about the time of your posting for clarity, "Don't we have perhaps the nation's best play making FR TE in Alize Jones?"

“I can split out Alize Jones and still have two tight ends or maybe three tight ends,” Kelly said. “So it just gives us more versatility. Then on the next play I can be in a power set formation and going. You know, you better not be in nickel. You've got to go out and cover Jones or you've got to go out and cover Smythe with a linebacker. So versatility is what it gives you.”

Glad we didn't see any of that....

"After being committed to UCLA for months, Las Vegas tight end Alize Jones has flipped his pledge to Notre Dame. The bluechip recruit is widely acknowledged to be the best tight end in the country and plays high school football with current Irish commit Nicco Fertitta at Bishop Gorman."

Perhaps you don't believe brian kelly,

"Aliz'e Jones out of Bishop Gorman, as well. We think he's‑‑ in our evaluations, we've been recruiting him since his sophomore year. We think he's the finest tight end in the country...... You will not be able to put a linebacker on him. You're going to have to use a safety to cover Jones."

There have also been reports about his dazzling pre season plays. You really aren't good with your assumptions and if I had to guess that translates into underwhelming coaching at whatever level you claim to be at.

As for the 2 point failure, it was a stone cold horrible special teams call that could have gotten Kizer knocked out. (It also gave momentum back to VA.)

I am fully confident that kelly's reckless/inept playcalling will accomplish that sooner than later....

PS loved the burned timeouts, delay of game, deranged lunacy.... same old same old....

You are a dunce. Everytime you post you display that. Read more post less.

Robinson is a great wr, but slow. I use more of my burners when I need to get the ball out of the QBs hand.

Lmao

Penn is that all you got that you resort to name calling ?

So you can not answer even the red zone issues question unless you don't believe there are any then that would make you not to........

Grow up and take your own advice
