Thread to discuss DL recruiting and DL coach heading into June recruiting stretch

Go....

another guy ranked down in the 900s ...

are we back in the ty willingham era?

Damn good get. Auburn, Miami, OSU and a slew of others. He is already 315lbs and growing. All ND needs is the kid from Chicago and DL is on it’s way to being elite
Yes, Scott would make this a great class. And there’s another DE that we are still recruiting That would be a definite take if he committed. Kid from Texas, I think (Rushing?)

Yeah, this is a classic “look at the offer list” versus ranking bud. He’ll be moving up. No doubt
I dont know why anybody would look at offer lists in 2023. Everybody offers everybody these days. Only thing that matters is whether the offer is actionable or not and we have no way to tell for sure.

Best objective indicator we have an a prospect is his composite ranking.

Does the tune change when 3 stars become 4 like Kyle Hamilton? Ever consider the recruiting and offer list requires recruiting services to re-evaluate? Happens a lot

" objective " ? Wow, that's quite naive.

We have a solid dline class now, Scott and rushing would make it great.

As for play, our dline has a ton of talent some experienced and some young. They should excel at getting to the qb as a unit and making tfl. Let’s see it!

The only thing that matters is if this guy, or any guy, turns into a good player or not. There's nothing wrong with calculating the odds, based on his recruiting q rating or whatever, but it doesn't mean shit. Whatever makes you feel good. I just hope all these guys are good ND fits, which I would say is the top criteria for a ND recruit. In addition, naturally, to being a good player.

Needless to say, there's been no big recruiting bump with our dashing new coach. No better or worse than under BK....

I think adding either makes it one of our better recent DL’s. But yes, both would make it elite.

The simple fact that the rating services are flawed. The only rating that matters is still over another year away. The only way anybody can tell is by looking at the offer list consistently leaning toward the heavy hitters wheather or not they are committable or not. I believe MF and staff go by measurables and film on a lot of occasions. I know for a fact high school coaches actually tip off colleges about players that might be a good fit for ND

Think about this. Rivals is asked to evaluate HS sophomore, junior, and senior football players, and then rank them as potential college football players.

It's an impossible task to be perfect, or even close to perfect.

Ian Williams was a 3 star dt out of Florida, hopefully they found another under the radar guy like him

It's an impossible task that they do not do themselves. They use college recruiting staffs to help them... There is a reason kids recruited by Alabama and Texas get bumps... Namely they have HUGE athletic departments doing research that the reporting agencies could never dream of.
