we knew Texas had problems offensively. So it is really hard to assess the D

They are being were they are suppose to be w/o miscues. I have see ND defenses look worse against weaker opponents

where are you work now, Brother ? Looks like this will be a good season ?

I had been working Phoenix a couple weeks ago on the highway expansion then to Vermont.

I am excited about this season

Pers,
I know that Texas has some problems, but I think our defense will be very solid no matter whom we play? I see speed, strength, and solid tackling. I think that the D will get even better as the season progresses?
We will see ?

Poet, It was hot as hell out here in Phoenix. Today has been the first 100 + - a degree or so. compared to the 115 +. days that we have been having.
Vermont should be a lot more comfortable for you ?

Chillllllllll.

Texas is one of the worst big 5 conference teams in the nation.

And like I stated when Gilson left it was going to be for the good. Zaire is so much better than that 5'9 FSU quarterback.

Defense did look very good. Looking forward to seeing them against a great offense in Georgia Tech.

It was 115 deg when I was out there . Vermont is nice this time of year

Great start to the season

Yes, our defense looked very good. It has to be to offset Kelly. If we are dominant on this side of the ball, it may not matter what stupidity Kelly reigns down upon the team.

I
D looked good would have liked to have seen turnovers and such... hard to measure D bc of UT ineptitude

Not trying to take anything away from ND's defensive performance, as you couldn't ask them to play any better tonight, aside from that long bomb. However, I will argue jury is still out. We all saw what happened in the second half of the season last year. I do think there was progress made, as I didn't see much confusion, as guys played fast and talked less pre-snap. And they didn't seem to have any problems with Texas going no huddle.

At the same time, Texas offense is a mess, especially at o-line and QB. It's clear that they aren't on the same page and I think that even a Charlie Weis defense would have looked good against them tonight.

With that said, I'll reserve judgment till ND plays strong offense such as G-Tech, Clemson, and SC in the upcoming weeks.

I am however, very encouraged by what I saw tonight and I wish Jaylon Smith could be at ND for the next 10 years.

definately more speed on D; better conditioned. Remember this time last year they looked great but the competitioned was very mediocre too.
Texas was abysmal - they absolutely cannot pass and physically as impressive as Swoops might be in appearence he is about as fast as TR was; and less accurate than he is slow! UVA has a similar QB so this was a preview of that one also.

texas was poor but did have speed which ND contained. hey they were alot better than most creampuffs GT & others opened with. ND did what they should have.....now move on to virginia!!!

BEAT uva!!!

We will have to wait till GAt/Clemson to get a real meter on the D. But I expect to see the offense use more of the Fr in the next 2 games. The Offense is gonna score.

HH will get those penalties worked out in the next couple weeks.

Texas isn't the Texas of old. The defense played really well. However, they were never challenged. I feel it was a combination of a good defense vs a poor offense. Let's just see how the next few games go, especially GTech. I was watching Clemson play against the triple option the other night. Grant it, it was aw Wafford. But, the Clemson defense was in the backfield disrupting the wishbone all night. They have some really fast and talented players on that team. ND will have their hands full when they meet.

for once I agree with perse. the texas offense was painful to watch. extremely predictable. no imagination or rhythm to it. nd dominated them up front and their qb looked lost.

Other than Folston's injury, the game went about as well as ND fans could have hoped. Looking forward to seeing them play in person at UVA next weekend!

If Strong doesn't fix that offense soon, he could be in trouble. I think he has to go with the true Frosh QB. Swoopes isn't going to move the ball. At least Heard can make a play on his own.

ND is going to have to out score Navy and G Tech. Those offenses move the ball on everybody except Bud Foster. And he does not coordinate the ND defense. Judging by last night ND can out score virtually anyone.

Very happy that there were no defensive injuries.

One thing that seems to be getting lost in this discussion is that the dbs covered very well. They certainly had a hand in Swoopes looking so bad.
