The defense best friend is a good offense. Now more than ever that has become paramount as teams score at rapid rates. The best defensive teams get gashed for 20 spot or more.

You have to match the opposition score for score and try and get one more stop, turnover..etc....
something...just one more than the other guy.

That said....
The corner play still sucks...

The linebackers would be ok if they'd keep Marist Liufau on the bench.

He's absolutely positively atrocious.
He plays the position like a coward and that IS NOT a position you can play timid. .at least not if you're playing it correctly.
Liufau is in no mans land.
#1 there is absolutely NO WAY he is 235#
Even with equipment on there is no way in hell.

He heeds to lose about 15 pounds and play strong safety at around 200-205

#44 needs to replace him immediately!!
Niuafe Tuihalamaka is an absolute animal. The only thing I worry with him is hits to the head of defenseless players. He'll get nabbed for targeting but I'll gladly deal with that and clean that shit up to rid the weak link and play someone who understands how to play the position properly.

#8 drags the entire linebacker group down a damn rabbit hole.
Instead of reading the play and attacking the lead blocker allowing the help (other LB's and safety(s) to be free and clear to make a tackle for little gain...no no no no...
First of all he guesses where it's going and then he allows the blocker to engage him 5 yards deep.

As a LB the first step is forward. The secondary first step is back.

Anyway, he's flat footed at snap most times and then he just guesses where it's going. When the lead blocker is coming at him he waits and catches the lead blocker 5 yards downfield.
He needs to read that immediately and engage the blocker at the LOS. This allows the help free to make a clean tackle.
If the linebacker "B" gets 14 tackles in one game it's because linebacker "A" and "C" are doing their job.
It's a stat that isn't documented but rather a stat within the stats.

Because he waits to be engaged instead engaging....he puts the help in an untenable situation. They're stuck amid the trash and the opponent just reeled off a 5-7 yard run. An easy run.

Most players add weight and move down to linebacker from the secondary...

In his case he needs to shed some weight and play safety.

Our secondary gets burned already so it's not like he'll hurt the pass defense and a player like him needs time and a running start and then maybe get get his nose dirty helping out against the run.

Either way he's dragging the LB play down and either needs on the bench, move to safety or...
Transfer if he's hell bent on playing linebacker.

P.s.

If anyone can find us good cornerback play please notify head coach Marcus Freeman immediately

It’s amazing how someone who knows so little about ND football can type so much !
