I think it's safe to say that if BW gets close to expectations, the offense will score points. The question mark remains the defense and my initial thoughts were that we were unproven everywhere in the defensive backfield. When I look at the the depth chart though, I actually like our potential this year at the corners, but am a little concerned about the safeties. I think the rover position fits tranquill well and I think he will have a great year but when we go to the 4-2-5 that has been talked about, will we go to the next safety or use a corner for that 5th DB spot. Safety looks thin, corner looks deeper, imo. I would like to see pride, Vaughn & love on the field at the same time. im not sold on Elliott and Coleman manning the two safety spots. Thoughts?

Forgot about Crawford too. If he's healthy, we have the potential to have real quality depth.

Speaking of Crawford, if his injuries slow him down too much to play corner, could he move to safety? He's not a big guy but he hits well.

I don't think our defensive backfield will be a weakness this year, including safety. Based on the performances of our young guys last season, I think this will be an area of strength, barring injuries.

Elko coaches the safety position. He needs to work his magic. I like the corners and there is some depth.

I don't have a comfort factor with any area of the defense. Last year's defense was offensive. Until they prove they can stop the run and the deep ball, get pressure on the QB, can tackle and play tough for 4 quarters, the jury is out. As far as the offense is concerned, Georgia was just selected as the preseason favorite to win the East Division of the SEC this week. The voters selected them mainly because of their defense. If the Irish can score on GA, they will be in good shape against any defense they play.

Watched the spring game in its entirety over the weekend for the first time and thought Watkins looked pretty good. It would be nice to have good corner play (we rarely have recently). Tranquill will have a big year at that rover position I think coming off the edge and blitzing. Maybe Morgan finally lives up to his billing (despite the tackle numbers last season, he hasn't been very good, imo). But I think he turns it on his senior year. Martini looked solid against the run and made some plays in the passing game too. DL is a question mark but if Elko can do it at wake, he should be a big improvement compared to what we had.

Offensively, Book looked really good. Dexter can turn the corner. I like our WRs/TEs. Oline has some ?s on the right side but that doesn't worry me. Pretty well stocked everywhere on offense. The QB is the biggest ? of all. If BW takes care of the ball, we'll score a lot of points.

It's time to reap the benefits of playing all those kids last year, sometimes maybe before they were ready.
