First of all, good game. Hard, physical and well coached.

But that's the second time this year Kelly has knelt the clock out inside the 5 yard line. Let McIntosh bury that up inside. This is about friggen style points. Put every point up on the board that you can.

SMH.

Another touchdown at the end of the game would of made my prediction look a lot better lol

I was thinking the same thing. No other coach with playoffs on the line would kneel the ball in that situation.

I actually felt like they were going to try and score. Smh. 42-14 looks a lot better then 35-14.

Yeah, fighting for a playoff birth, maybe he should have, but some of the analytics tools would disregard that score and give more credence to how ND completely wore NCST down and got like five or six 8+ yard runs there on that final drive.

Thank goodness for the age of data,; no longer do we need to rely on some senile pollster who read a score line in he newspaper and based his opinion about teams based on literally next to nothing,

Disagree, I love the fact that my school can say “we are ND” ... screw style points, I appr3ciate the sportsmanship. There are style points in that.

Moral victories will not get a team to the playoffs in a system in which they are already at a disadvantage by not playing a Conference Championship Game. They Don't need any more hurdles.

If I’m a committee member, a 20+ pt win is enough to impress me but I understand the frustration. In the end, win and you’re in. It’s all that matters with this schedule.

I would have liked to see " style points". But they did the right thing. 35 to 14 is pretty impressive. Especially against that defense.

I gurantee the committee had at least 2-3 members assigned to watch the entire ND-NC State game. They will know ND could have made it 42-14 if they wanted to. Nothing to worry about fellas.

Not to mention a Heisman candidate is sitting out every 4th quarter not getting any stats on the bench.

Again, modern analytics does away with “style points.” That extra TD wouldn’t do much for ND when looking at some of the advanced statistical measures.

Be humble yes but there’s only 4 spots and every years somebody deserving gets left out. Coaches know this and wouldn’t hold it against another coach.

Run up the damn score!!! We were 4-8 last year. Make them feel the rath of our revenge massacre!!! Dicks in the dirt!!!

Not needed.

That game was a complete lopsided affair.

If the committee is even half as impartial as they say they know this game very well could have been 42-7. Easy.

Have respect for the opponent. 21 points is plenty.

The committee will watch that game and see that NCSt knew it was done late in the third quarter. Weird to see a team down 21 in the third and pretty much mail it in.

That was a dominate performance by the Irish. I'll be rooting for NCSt next week.

I’m pretty sure if your the committee you watch many of these games and know ND did this twice. No need.

ND dominated. They know it. Gave up 7 pts on defense and rushed for 300 yards against 6th best defense.

This team gave up one offensive touchdown, and covered the spread vs back to back top 15 opponents by 56 points combined. It is insane what this team is doing right now. Reminds me of the Cornhuskers in 90's. Taking a knee showed mercy and class. There are only 2 teams better in the country right now, and that should be obvious. But if Wimbush and ND can win out. Wimbush and his receivers can get some more time to work out the kinks in the pass efficiency before the playoffs. This team is the best ND team since 93.

Meaningless shove it in their face points just feel cheap to me. It is the ole generous in victory and gracious in defeat. I even think we should have pulled Wimbush to protect him from a frustration injury.

We have 7 wins by 20 points or more I think now. That is enough for me. I remember when UW Husky fans used to call into the Fabulous Sports Babe in Seattle in their heyday and whine about some bad call that kept them from winning by 40 points. She used to call them a bunch of pixies from pixieville. I agreed with that sentiment then and now.

I told my son the same thing today, and I'm very cautious with the praise.

I applaud the taking a knee.

I like it too.

Anyone watching that games knows it could have easily been 42-7, or even 49-7 if you factor in the non-call on Boykin.

I liked how we just drained the clock with our fourth string running back, no less, ripping off gains of 8-9 yards at will. Anyone watching knows we could have punched it in.

While I agree we should have gone for it. It will not be lost on anyone! Not Espn Not Fox sports not Si, No one will overlook what we are doing!

Sorry guys I'm as big a fan as any, this team is what we as fans have been salivating for. Not the Hype trains under Willingham and Weis, certainly not 2012. This group is special, tough, fundamentally sound all the cliches we've been searching for.

Congrats to Swarbricks patience (gamble imo) Kelly for swallowing his pride and saving his job. Co-ordinators need raises!

Stfu man. We were 4-8 last season. I’ll take a dominant 35-14 win against a top 15 team anyday. I appreciate your recruiting analysis, but don’t be one of the whiny pussies that this board is full of.

This is not necessarily true.
Everyone's got to remember without a conference tie that could hamper the Irish chances.
Ohio State proved last year you do not need to be a conference Champion you just need to be in a conference with a good record

I do not believe IIO is whining I believe he is making a valid point with the Irish not being in a conference. The Irish need to take advantage of all the other things that will allow you to become a top contender

Is this the same committee that watched Penn State win the Big Ten Conference and still took Ohio State?

Unlike... and nowhere did he say he wasn’t happy with the win.

The more I think about it, I agree with the knee. Being classy in victory is paramount.

Kelly showed restraint in not going for the score, but not so much in the post game interview. Paraphrasing, but he said something to the effect that NCST is a very good football team, and we won because we dominated them in every facet of the game. Kelly making the case for Adams and the Heisman and singing the praises of the team are nice developments.

I can respect your unlike. Just tired of everyone nitpicking and whining when we’re winning. Nothing wrong with beating a top 15 team. An unneeded thread that could have just been a post in the game thread

BW over threw two wide open Receivers for TDs. That's 14 points. Taking a knee and calling it a day is a non issue.

I don’t usually pay close attention to these sort of things but your handle was unfamiliar to me and I wanted to make sure you knew that the OP is total koolaid drinking type (so and I and 99% of those posting here) of ND fan. He isn’t (wasn’t) nitpicking the game but just offering his opinion on one issue.

Just in case... the pass to Boykins was only an “overthrow” because he was held continuously for 3 yards. I’m not sure if you’re referring to that play or not.

The throw to Stepherson was perfect. It actually grazed off his right thumb, waist high.

He didnt locate the ball until late & still should have caught it. He didn’t even extend for it. Poor effort on his part.

The one to Kevin was talked about as a missed throw by the radio booth and BK discussed it as the same in his post game, saying that BW would probably like to have that throw back. So, there were other opportunities to run it up. Also, that kneel down went against the offense incredible red zone scoring numbers. What I took away from the game is the guys are tougher than hell, don't break, wear you down, mistakes are part of the deal but they handle it really really good. I have no complaints about the win over NCST. The staff is on fire. WF cannot be taken lightly.
