probably the best assistant coach (OC) ND has had since Urban. He will probably be a great HC someday soon. Hopefully at ND! (Though I am aware CBK has stated that he will be at ND until he wins a NC!
Makes me wonder if ND has a mandatory retirement age)
On the recruiting trail, all the recruits and their families sing Sanford's praise! My guess he would be a 100% guy!

Excellent thoughts perse.

I thought it was a great hire from the start

He will have to go elsewhere first to get HC experience since ND will probably never again hire a HC without HC experience.

Let's see the last 3 Head Coaches hired at ND without any major College Head Coaching experience were Gerry Faust, Bob Davie and Charlie Weis. How much more empirical evidence would someone need to prove that hiring someone with no experience is a monumentally stupid idea?

Agree

Sanford will be a hot commodity at the end of the year - teams like Ohio State seem to have deep pockets for assistants.

Notre dame is a different animal, it really takes a unique person to be successful as a coach here.
Someone with coaching experience and able to be political mastermind.
If your not both ND eat you up and spit you out.

and I think your 'probably' incorrect.

Sanford resonats with recruits; has a knack for coaching and has worked for HC's who ran complete programs.

What ND wants less than a talented young coach with a bright future is a retread with a lot of miles of wear n tear

Purse said AD hired Sanford to hopefully replace Kelly

Purse also said two days ago the we will be good with a real coaching fundamentally effort

re knowing the QB position and I quote " Rees will overthrow receivers all year because his arm is weak and he will throw the ball as far as he can as soon as he gets the snap to compensate for his weak arm and the receivers won't be able to catch up "

Baffles the shit out of me how after 24,000 worthless posts people still dialog with this village idiot - baffling

I think Perse is looking for reaction for kicks. He has been wrong from day one about Sanford's hire, and he knows this. Nearly everyone sings Sanford's praise and his bright future, and he was a brilliant hire and recruiting effort by Kelly. He is not the anointed head coach in waiting, nor is he the OC who is operating with autonomy. He is a new and creative voice in the collaborative effort with Denbrock and Kelly, and I expect his influence will increase significantly with time and trust.

If and I say "if" ND was to hire a young coach my vote would be for P.J. Fleck.

Not one of these guys had Sanford's pedigree in college football at such a young age! I think we make an exception if that indeed is the rule. I hope he is smart enough to stick around for a year or two and learn from Kelly.

studon is the guy who gets it.

Those that cite Sanford's inexperience probably have not taken time to check his resume.
On sports center Saturday Whitfield gave props to Sanford, as maybe the top Asst Coach. Every single thing I read on this guy seems to point to him being a rising star. On the recruiting trail he resonates with prospects and their families. He is already probably the more creative forward thinking offensive coach on the staff (but, as noted, a staff that's been doing things the same way 20+ years! - (not my words), per BK!)
If Sanford goes on to be the next UM, forced to leave ND, a place he AND his wife love, because of lack of
opportunity on the basis of he has not 'failed' somewhere else or that he has not been a 'job hopper' ; then: one warned-twice burned!

And Telx: your opinion I been wrong on Sanford is absolutely bullshit!
You are behind the curve on this on. Stay with the pack, though, where your comfy.
(the only part of your contention that was correct was that - yep - it was a thread to get the goat of the K-minions; and was tongue in cheek, but now, it seems to have resonated with others recognizing that ND possibly has a special talent in Coach Sanford)

If I am not mistaken, Sanford turned down Ohio State to come to ND. Did I make that up? I'm wondering if something isn't already in place for Sanford to stay on until Kelly leaves, which I am figuring to be 3-4 years from now. Grooming a young coach that knows the system and the players to take over would be a great move. Would eliminate the whole "starting over" process, similar to what Oregon did.
