Will they pull "a Clemson" this weekend or next? And will a late-season loss drop them behind the Irish if we beat Stanford on Saturday? If their loss is to NC does NC jump over the Irish? Hmmm... A very inexact science -- we really need to add a week and four more teams to this playoff thing.

Big Ten: Nebraska beats Iowa, Michigan beats OSU (I hope they both lose), MSU beaten by PSU...

Big 12: Oklahoma loses to OkState, Baylor loses to TCU or better yet, Texas.

SEC: How about another Auburn miracle vs. Bama and FlaSt beat FU

I'm just saying there is still a lot of football to be played.

Big, big game for the Irish saturday to stay in the conversation. Can Kelly get a win with his skeleton crew? I say yes. Go Irish.

Stu...I don't think the four team format necessarily leads to a playoff of the best and most deserving teams, but it sure accomplishes the goal of fans being emotionally invested and elevates the noise level dramatically. Like most here, strongly prefer an eight team format with the old BCS process. But as you illustrate, lots of football to be played this weekend and conference championship weekend, that will impact on the final four, and I'll be following games I would not otherwise care about. None of this matters if we don't beat Stanford.

I don't think Clemson could lose to South Carolina even if they were trying to lose.

Anything is possible, but South Carolina is really bad this year. It's the north Carolina in the ACC championship game that scares me. They are very dangerous. I still think it's in ND's best interest, Clemson finish undefeated.
