It was reported that ND called him and he was not interested. Maybe a change of heart? I didn’t hear this. It seems the kid wants guaranteed playing time from what USC folks said? Not that I trust ISC people. He was 8th-9th in receptions at USC I think. They didn’t try to save him either from what USC people said. Just went to portal to replace him again. Sounds like he was fed a like to commit and then disregarded. Big surprise. I thought he was all Wisconsin bc he wants to play Air Raid.

Yup. Just read about it. Tommy got him to visit. Originally turned down. I don’t see it ending well but can’t say TR isn’t trying. Imo he’d be insane to turn down the opp to play with Hartman, Minchey, Buchner, Carr. And that degree. He clearly liked ND.
I never heard he wanted guaranteed time, but just that he wanted to play more. He was too far down the depth chart for that.
Loy says he’s visiting this weekend and if he visits he expects ND to win. So, ND wins? If he drops the ball less than Styles it’s a win for us. ND won’t be super easy to play all year either. But he was a damn good receiver in HS and ceiling is really high.
Actually I don’t see a super high ceiling, but he was polished and tough for HS…I thought he would have played a good bit for nd this year
I kinda like the move and hopefully it’s a message to get your crap together or you’ll get passed…. I think styles Thomas and merriweather have higher potential and a few of the frosh but styles was awful this year

My questions are : one, he is not a graduate in the portal, will ND accept an undergraduate transfer? Second, does ND need another receiver? There was a comment if Williams drops more passes then Styles. I believe Styles was in many cases a victim of bad passes. I also believe he was a victim of a lack of passes. Rightfully so, Michael Mayer received the most attention and others should always be prepared. Yet its tough focusing when your rarely targeted. Its always best to spread the passes around. I believe Styles will be a huge benefactor of Hartman because he will see the field better then Pyne and Buchner. Styles being active in an offense will be a player who takes a 5 yard pass 25+ yards. I remember the Will Fuller years where he had a problem with dropped passes. He ended with an NFL career. I see tge same for Styles. Lastly, does ND want a young player who would rather transfer then get better and fight for more reps with his current team?

My guess is he wouldn't be traveling all the way to South Bend if his credits transferring were the issue. The issue I see is he didn't initially bother responding to the coaches when they reached out and it allegedly took some coercing to get him to visit. I don't know what the coaches have to sell if it is a chore for someone to come to campus. Perhaps he saw the light.
They’ve been recruiting the portal like they would. If Williams was an academic take as an incoming freshman, can’t see why one semester at USC should really make a difference.
I thought Styles regressed. Hardly seemed like the player we saw against Oklahoma St. QB or receiver or combination of both?
I will be happy if we get Williams, but not unhappy if we don’t. Really like our incoming class of receivers. If we make only one more portal transfer, much prefer a large interior DL to a receiver, but not aware of Any that are an improvement over our current roster.
It only makes a difference when they take classes like gender studies or weird pointless classes that ND doesn't have. You cannot make shift class credits. I am sure admissions is picky about what the grade was and what the institution was. I wouldn't take a C- in art studio from Podunk State. I heard he is a business major so if he has an A in intro to macroeconomics from USC, I cannot see ND taking too big an issue with that.
USC requires something like six courses of general Ed for all students. I briefly looked at their listing and the offerings are possibly in the hundreds, and range from gender identity to Shakespeare to ….. I’m “guessing” an incoming freshman playing football is taking gen Ed classes as opposed to anything in his major.
Sounds like the standard problem for athletes transferring to an academic institution. One thing I am sure CJ is doing on his visits is seeing admissions to look at what the cost would be of losing any and all credits he earned freshman year. If his goal is a degree, Wisconsin will probably take most pointless credits he obtained as would WVU. If his goal is the NFL and he'd rather get there via ND, he won't concern himself with losing a few credits and will suck it up and come to ND. In the long run, those credits won't matter if he is good enough to play in the NFL. Nor will it matter if his goals is an elite degree bc he would just tough out the loss and either come back to earn his degree like Bettis or finish his ND degree and get a good job. For most non NFL players, the benefit of an extra semester or two to earn a ND degree vs the earlier graduation to earn a not so elite degree, outweighs the costs.

Scarcity of land labor and capital. Econ 101. Focus on the ones you can get and want. Williams was 9th at USC. Not exactly a Golden Tate. Miss him and I wonder who else could we have spent such time on?

Shawn needs to be kicked off IB. The guy is weird. He is always a little sus but he was apparently acting up about CJ Williams and saying some inappropriate things for an old man. He’s been sus to me for a while and has said some things that make me shake my head. This one was just another example of poor behavior on his part. He and Malik are a joke and make ND look bad imo. It’s one thing to be a shit talker on a forum or social media but he’s in a media position and has apparent credentials. He doesn’t act or respect the role.
You didn't give one example of what he said. You have a crush on Hartman and you used the word sus.... how old are you?
I didn’t listen to it. But he’s been weird before. I would have to listen to it to be sure. It could have been a drama Queen that said it.

Well... they brought in a Addison., Brendan Rice and the other Williams from Okie. So as a true frosh I don't think him being #9 really is a measuring stick.
Both the NCAA and USC require progress towards a major.
Willaims is good, we just have a really good WR room. The even might be more quality WR leaving SC through the portal.
