I think he could be converted to RB like Procise. He could learn to run north south and catch passes as a safety valve out of the backfield. He could also play part time at slot receiver. I think his versatility and speed should be used more this year. He just has to get tougher maybe stronger. He should be developed into an every down threat.

I figure with Brent gone and Stepherson emerging it could be a way to keep him on the field and add speed to the backfield. Chip Long is definitely walking into a great situation on offense.

Sadly it won't happen. We don't have a very visionary coach when it comes to that sort of thing. Dual threat, dual purpose under Kelly ONLY happens out of an emergency need.

Remember the light bulb didn't go off for Kelly with Procise but it was a may day situation with Folston going down. He didn't feel comfortable with DW and JA only getting snaps. Then a pleasant surprise happened. CJ has a real knack for running the ball between the tackles. He has a natural feel for it.

I agree Sanders needs to see the ball a lot. If he can catch a punt he can catch a pass.

One question...if we had an athlete like Peppers at Michigan would we ever even know it?

Nitwit alert! Coach Kelly isn't to blame for your miserable life.

Sanders is too small to take the beating of an RB. I want him for returns, 3 catches a game and a jet sweep or two.

Basically 8-10 touches a game.

I am a little curious on why his production declined through the year last year. Finke was almost as productive at the end as Sanders.

I think CJ would be best used as a slot and a returner. So the coaches need to run more passes to him or the D needs to step up and get more 3 and outs for punt return opportunites. He is too light and small for RB. You could be short and thick to play RB but CJ does not have the mass to take the pounding.

ND offense can be one of the best in the country in 2017.. Sanders should move to RB . When the ball is in his hands he has the best wiggle of all the personnel. ND has enough personnel to become multi- dimensional as long as the players can handle the playbook especially Wimbush . But he has been there now 3 years so he should have a good grasp of the offense. The only weakness I see is the right side of the oline and that is still decent. Imo the best personnel grouping should be from left to right:
Stepherson, Jones, Smythe and St. Brown .. The double TE set can really put defenses in a bind . ND needs to establish the run game and Smythe , Latua can be great blocking TE's . Jones give them a guy with great size in slot. Sanders in the backfield can give that can put the LB's in a bind. a 3rd down back .. move him a round and let him make plays.

Finke was a more productive slot. Sanders was coming off a hip injury prior to last year. He is much too small to play RB and the rb position is well staffed with Adams, Dexter Williams and T Jones.

Procise was working out at running back all spring and fall before the 2015 season. Kelly was talking him up the entire time saying he was too good to keep off the field and they needed to find a way to get him the ball. The CJ got his chance and, dare I say, confirmed Coach Kelly' vision.

Just so you understand there are footballs out there that actually have more knowledge on the intricacies of the game than you do.

Moreover you're pissed because for some reason you've this deranged idea Brian Kelly is good for Notre Dame.

Rather telling that you can't join any football discussion in any meaningful way.

The Kelly Cares Foundation has a day when they invite all the women interested in learning about football. I suggest you attend. Don't hurt yourself.

I don't believe the Irish are hurting at RB

Man -- your positive thinking always amazes me!

Long's offensive schemes rely heavily on quick outs in the flat and around end sweeps and slot receiver screens, etc..., and exactly the kind of skill set that Sanders possesses. I expect he will play a big role next season, and that is also the reason behind this frantic effort in the last three weeks of the recruiting period to sign one or more similarly skilled smallish, quick, shifty receivers this year. Yeast is the best of these targets.

Yeah. Plus Prosise was 6' 220. Sanders is 5'8 185.

You are a waste of life. Sad but true.

He could be, but I don't think he'd crack the depth chart.

He is much more valuable in the role he is in. Slot WR + KR. Any attempt to gain enough weight to compete at RB would diminish his value at the role he already has -- and should remain the starter in.
