. When I grew , up my family followed the Italian Traditions , so we started on Christmas Eve with
a dinner of 7 different types of fish : Clams, Mussels, Calamari ( both fried and {also stuffed and
placed in the tomato sauce} ) Shrimp, Scallops, Crab, and filet. The Anchovie was the extra fish and was part of the Antipasto. Of course, the Stuffed Calamari and crab were cooked in the tomato sauce
and were eaten with the pasta.
Christmas Day was the day for the Ravioli or Lasagna with a tomato sauce filled with meatballs,
sausage, and a stuffed beef ( not sure of the spelling but in the Southern Italian Dialect is sounds like
Brajole )
Of course, there were both home made red and white wines, pastries, nuts, expresso, Zambucca
and Anisette on both days.
and everyone also still managed to get to Mass either on Christmas Day or Christmas Eve.
Even though my wife is German, My Mother ( rest her soul ) taught my wife how to cook Italian,
but now we added an extra feast day so the Lazagna day is now the 23rd, Pre Christmas Eve,
Christmas Eve is still the fish feast, and Chistmas Day is the Tradition German Roast pork with all the trimmings.
In Germany, the Christmas Tree was alway lit with real candles and there was never a fire or house burned down in my wife's region that I know of ? However, we now forego the real candles and use electric lighting.
Merry Christmas, Buon
Apitito ! Guten Apitit ! Enjoy ,
