Caleb Williams who?

Exactly.... because we were all over him and couldn't bring him down... strange comment
What I was referring to is several times we had two or three guys hanging on him and the play was blown dead before they could bring him to the ground, not those plays where someone may have gotten a hand on him and he slipped away, like we saw time and time again last year.

But I've learned that there is no conversation with you, only lecturing. It's not worth engaging with you.

The kid is a great football player. He can make an average offense look incredible. ND did a nice job last night getting on him . But you could clearly see his ability to improvise with quickness and strength. He had a tough game and the Irish defense was the reason. SC has some really good athletes and playmakers on that team. Kudos to coach Freeman and especially coach Golden for a great game plan. The defense played at a high level the entire game.

Correct. There's never a conversation. Zero dialogue. Golson simply lectures to everyone. Everyone else is full of shit.

One thing about Williams that I had never noticed until last night; He is a tough guy to bring down. On more than one sack, he remained standing despite having two or three defenders hanging all over him. Combine that with his quickness and it's no wonder he so easily slips out of tight spots.
You're right, but that's the first time you noticed that about Williams?

It's pretty much his SIGNATURE TRAIT, the thing that separates him from others who can also run and throw. For example, both the kid from FSU and Daniels at LSU can also both run and throw and from a lot of angles, but even so, not nearly as well as Williams. Yet, the thing that TRULY SETS WILLIAM APART is his STRENGTH. He's as strong as an old-fashioned FB or present day TE.

Kid is a brute and shakes off tacklers like water, and before last night, has seldom IF EVER been cornered like that. Plus I STILL HAVEN'T SEEN just one guy tackle him.

And I say this despite how ever much I dislike him and his arrogant attitude.

Williams reminds me of Major Harris.... Same kind of game. Containing him limits him to a winnable point. The defense simply elevated its game across the board. Enough pressure up front combined with a blanket in the secondary. Seems like we gave up the underneath stuff...but not the big play. He didn't have time for those.
Good comparison. Though, to me, Williams is the better of the two.

Exactly. It's like playing basketball against a very quick and aware point guard, who can dish off the ball to an open man before you trap him.
And rebound like a STRONG FORWARD.

Nope. Dude Carries that team. Hartman is no slouch but If he was at ND they’d be 8-0. And it wouldn’t be close.

a 1-4 team took them pretty much to the last minute.
Five Years ago Alabama beat teams like that by 6 TDs
The talent gap is MASSIVE!

He's an incredible football player, period. ND came in with the perfect, and I mean perfect, game plan to control him and shutdown that entire offense. Even without the turnovers, they dominiated them.
Al Golden is the MVP. I say he saw how we just always had the wrong angle in 2022 and engineered a scheme specific to SC.

I was reading some other boards from other teams. They speculated that Williams was playing not to get hurt and protect his future prospects. I tend to agree because CW would slide after a 4 yard run, well short of the 1st down.

He’s a great player but the “as good as pat mahomes” talk was really over the top. He shakes tackles as good as any qb out there and has a great arm, but he looked rattled w/ the pressure we were bringing. Let’s see how he handles some real good defenses before we anoint him the 2nd coming of one of the best QBs in the nfl. Again, he’s already proven that he can play at a very high level in college, but the nfl is a different animal in terms of reading and dealing w/ pressure. Not saying he won’t be a great pro, but some of the comparisons are premature, imo.

Who said " as good as pat mahomes" ?

“Who said " as good as pat mahomes" ?”

Some radio hosts on Sirius college football show. More than one of them. Not sure if it was those two jag offs luginbill & sallee or Hester or Childers. Again, one of them said it and the others agreed. Like I said, way over the top. And they’re not the only ones w/ the lofty comparisons. Great player, but the comparisons are media-typically over embellishments, imo.

Maybe they said better in college? If so, I would agree

Maybe someone said that, but what I heard was them say “he is pat mahomes, right now”. One said it as a comparison and the other said “he is now”. As I said, he’s a great player but I think a lot of fans and analysts are being a bit over the top. Not a big deal, as I said, he could end up being a great pro, I just think it’s premature. I know how you feel about him, I’m not necessarily disagreeing, but some of the stuff that’s been said is too much, imo.

What I had always noticed about Williams was how he could either avoid outright or wiggle out of the grasp of a tackler, not like I saw last night where he had two or three defenders literally hanging all over him and he still didn't go down. But then again I don't watch football all weekend either, just bits and pieces of this game or that one, except for ND games that I always try to watch.

Hester and Luginbill are both former college starters and Hester played 10 years in the league.

Keep your day job !

Let's see how the regular season winds up for USC as well. They still have Utah, Oregon, Washington and UCLA to play.

I've been watching ND-sc games my entire life. I think Caleb is probably the best QB they have ever had.
kidding right? right now ? SC has had better QB’s

Caleb: has lost his 2 biggest games at SC. He reminds me of Johnny M. The NFL GM that takes him Rd.1. Better be drafting in the bottom third of the Rd

His competition would be Palmer, who went to HS 5 minutes from my home, and Leinert, who attended my old HS. So, I watched them both.

Leinert had a Heisman winning RB on his team, which Caleb does not.
Palmer, may be better, time will tell. Palmer won his Heisman as a Sr. Caleb won as a sophomore. Not sure that has happened before.

Leinert and Palmer both had prototypical size for an NFL QB, but Caleb has size enough, and is more exciting to watch.

Caleb will be the number 1 pick overall in the draft.

This is beyond stupid

Calebs athleticism is light years above both.

Caleb has a much bigger arm than Leinart and similar to Palmer

Caleb is a generational qb prospect

Do you know how to disagree and offer your opinions in a gentlemanly way? If not then just don’t reply to my opinions.

Agree with your points, and he is vastly more athletic. But that doesn't last very long in the league. A few times in the defensive backfield in the NFL slows a guy down....

Palmer did 17 years in the league and Leinert is in in the HOF.

As a college QB, I think Caleb is better. For his career? He has a hill to climb.

Ill do what I want to. If you dont like it, you can always return to your teams board, USC

Leinert was awful in the nfl.....

Palmer had a very good career but not an elite one

Totally called that from how ML tried his hardest to lose the Bush Push game. (SC had no timeouts when Leinhart started lumbering towards the goal line. SC was saved because of his own fumble.)

Yeah, I know that. I still don’t think them saying that “he’s pat mahomes” isn’t way over the top.

Is he good at reading defenses? Because you get the feeling, especially when you ooh and aah over some the plays he makes that mark him out as so special.... that they're frequently broken plays, and he's got great poise in the pocket, and so he buys time, and waits and waits, and then finally someone comes open and it's a spectacular play.

So that begs the question is he missing open WRs too often early in the play and he reduces himself to having to scramble and make something out of nothing, which admittedly he's quite exceptional at....
Good post Sassy. However, you used one of my grammar pet peeves which is the incorrect use of "begs the question". Sorry for being the grammar police.

I don't think it's the improper use of it. The fussy, formal usage of that phrase is the one nobody ever uses or can't really explain or even knows it exists. Only professional debaters who study the various logical fallacies and commit them to memory. Which you'd have to do because they're so unnatural to anyone who speaks and discusses things in everyday innocent good faith. Otherwise it would never come up. 'Begging the Question' being one of the prime examples. Though everyone knows what a 'straw man' is by now....

Anyway, as to CW, that is sort of his forte, it seems like, staying in the pocket forever, and flexing all that 'dynamic' composure, and then eventually managing to wriggle free and make something happen. But maybe that's just his style, and he plays with an irrepressible joie de vivre....
