Is on the board. Jarron will take him under his wing and show him the ropes. A year or 2 under Longo and young Jones will be ready to hit the ground running. Not a real surprise he joined this class.

honest assessment: avoid reading further if you are a prone to false optimism!

Bit of a reach for end - hope he continues to grow.

at the start, it would have been considered a surprise - but D recruiting is hitting a major 'meh'!
ND is defensive recruiting is not at a 'playoff level' and unless a few 'elites' suddenly join this class, this is a continuation of the mediocre defensive recruiting trend.

I am shocked by your assessment. Did you coach on the offensive or defensive side of the ball for Rich Kotite?

He worked out out for a couple of hours today at ND. He measured out at 6ft 3 221lbs.

Head scratcher time again? Just read a tweet that said right now he's 6'4"/230 pounds. Guys do develop at ND, but who am I to spoil anybody's fun!

Checked in at 6-3, 231 today.

he is not a LBer candidate; so lets hope he grows a bit. This class needs 2 guys up front that are prime time starting prospects. Defensively ND is recruiting at a level of 8-9 wins per; all the offensive fire power still needs defense. But heck the offense is gonna be a gas! And they will be back on the field pretty quickly!

He seems plenty big enough for his age and judging by his big brother he will likely going to keep on growing.
I can't believe you wrote that,my God man, a brother in all likelihood will possess some traits similar to an other sibling but unless they are twins they will acquire separate characteristics. Sometimes humanity disgusts me to the point of despair. I think I will get back to reading Tolstoy, compared to the comments I see here Leo is uplifting. Bonne nuet.

his offers list is really bad with mac like schools and lower division schools like old dominion but he did work for our coaches like somebody above said and so we just have to trust our coaches on this one

He's athletic enough to play some QB and TE, and it seems like Kelly likes that sort of thing for defensive linemen. Have to see how much he grows.

Dont know where all this talk about him be a possible defensive lineman is coming from. 225-230 lbs is nowhere near a D Lineman and 40 pounds is pretty hard to put on. Trust in Kelly to develop him and put him where he needs to be to help the squad. GO ND!

Hard to know what to expect given his eclectic body of work. Given his size and athleticism and lack of a singular position in HS, it will be interesting to see how he develops. I like this get, but hope we see more accomplished defensive line talent committing soon.

Listening to Sports Beat last night, and one of the guys made this comment: of the 26 defensive ends that have been considered stars in the NFL over the last 10 years (not sure what the bar was, but take it to be the 26 guys most would consider at the top over that period), all but a handful of them were 3 star players or lower coming out of high school. If this young man develops anything like his brother, he will be a force to recon with in his Junior and Senior years at ND.

why is it the fans of teams go euphoric when a five star commits; but then when they get no elite players they try to explain it with things like that notion!

answer this! who wins National Championships?

what teams? and how is their recruiting.

He is 14 months from showing up and likely at least 26 months from needing to produce at ND. His brother is well over 300 LBS and while yes every sibling is not the same the reality is you are likely within an inch or two of your siblings and likely within a few lbs at the same age based on the same athletic sports.

he is a big kid compared to reg people; and he is only 2 inches shorter than Jarron; so ?

see Vic Beasley.... first round draft pick in NFL this year who is 6ft 2 236lbs. He is 4 plus years older than Jamir. I think he will easily be bigger than Beasley. Not saying he is going to be Beasley but he can easily get to d end size.

Jones runs a 4.9 40 and that will get likely get slower as he gains weight. Seems clear his future is at DE. Hope he grows another two inches and adds forty pounds of muscle.

Beasley only put on 20 lbs from high school to the draft. It doesn't matter when alot of the time Beasley played standing up and ND de's play more with their hand on the ground.

The kid hasn'/t started his senior year yet. I think he will easily have the size to play DL in college.

Didn't realize Pitt, Syracuse and BC were in a lower division.

He can easily gain 30-40 lbs and play at 260-270lbs and would not be undersized. I'm not in a panic mode over the DL, I think the last two years has brought in some pretty undervalued guys that aren't getting any respect based on their star count.

Daniel Cage: UF, GT, Tennessee, Nebraska, Mich St and a total of 6 SEC schools offered.
Tillery: LSU, looks to be elite
Jay Hayes: Alabama, FSU, USC, Oregon, Georgia, UF all offered.
Trumbetti: Clemson, UF, FSU, Stanford, Mich St offered.
Blankenship: OU, TX, TCU, Arkansas offered
Elijah Taylor: FSU, MSU, Ohio St, Miami, Tennessee offered.

I understand the speed rush is a concern and that's not going to improve anytime soon. Best hope is that ND can utilize some very good corners and manufacturer a blitz from the LB position. Also, hope that Okwara, Trumbetti and Day can generate something. These above guys aren't just the average 3-4* guys, think 3-4 have the change to be game changers. Not to mention some decent depth with the likes of Bonner, Matuska, Tiassum, Treadway.

He can put on weight. Vic Beasley was a national sack leader though and I am not sure that is a good comparison

I trust the coaching staff more than people like us that have other careers.

Pers - Weis had good recruiting classes. He didn't know how to develop 18-20 year old players. He was used to simply telling experienced players what to do and where to go, and his practices were little more than walk-throughs. That was his downfall, along with his arrogance.

I really don't like to see posters question a young man's abilities prior to even seeing the field. Remember, they and their families read this board as well as the rest of us.
