Cheer up Bodi my friend. Let's recall a little history of Notre Dame and head coaches. ND fired Terry Brennan in 1958 for not winning enough games. The next two coaches went 19-30 in a five year period. It was Notre Dame's first bad stretch of down time. ND was fortunate that NW's AD and a young coach named Ara Parseghian had a falling out and Coach Parseghian came to ND. In the Era of Ara ND loss only 17 game, won two championships, and named national champions in three other years by other media services in 11 years. The next coach won a title but his teams suffered 16 losses in six years. Then ND decided to hire a very good high school coach after Coach Dooley of Georgia turned the job down. It didn't go so well as he finished with 26 loses in five years. ND hit pay dirt again with the hiring of Lou Holtz. His team won the national title in 1988 and just missed in '89, '92, and '93. Those four years were reminiscent of the great Leahy teams of the late '40's. However, his 30 loses in a 11 year run can't be overlooked IMHO. I'm not going to rehash the miserable years of Davie, O'leary, Willingham, and Weis. Coach Kelly made his bed back last December by not replacing his college friend at DC. He must now deal with the consequences. I just hope ND will finally hit pay dirt again, and hire the next coach who can Wake Up the Echoes once again at ND. This would be a good time to hire a new coach with a roster filled with very good talent just waiting for that coach. Who knows since it's way above my pay grade. I know Saturday afternoon that I'll be setting in Irish comfort at home watching with hope that ND beats USC. Go Irish!!!
