Brandon Aubrey

Aubrey has an amazing leg. Here are some NFL records that Brandon holds, as posted on Wikipedia:
  • Most consecutive field goals made to start a career: 36 (2023)
  • Most field goals made of 50+ yards without a miss in a single season: 10 (2023)
  • Most kickoffs for touchbacks in a single season: 99 (2023)
  • Highest field goal percentage by a rookie in a single season: 94.7% (2023)
  • First player to make their first 10 field goal attempts in their first three games
  • First player to make two 59+ yard field goals in a single game (December 10, 2023 vs. Philadelphia Eagles)
  • Longest field goal in the first quarter of a game: 60 yards (December 10, 2023, vs. Philadelphia Eagles)
I haven't followed Brandon that closely, and was unaware of how good he is. Those are just phenomenal numbers. Considering he didn't play college football and that the Cowboys signed him after he played just one season with the USFL Birmingham Stallions, looks like they found a diamond in the rough.

According to Wikipedia, after graduating from ND in 2016, Brandon played two years of professional soccer and then got released. He put his ND degree to use and became a software engineer. The story goes that while watching an NFL game on TV in 2019, a placekicker missed a field goal and his wife told him: "You could do that." Brandon then hooked up with a former college football kicking coach, and eventually signed with the USFL in 2022.

That's funny stuff! His wife created an NFL monster!

Interesting postscript to the story. Brandon's wife, Jenn, is also an ND alum, and played lacrosse at ND while Brandon played soccer. She graduated with a double major in Finance and Chinese. Wow! What an impressive couple!

This says something about the program when your best NFL player wasn't even on the football team.
Best NFL player? He did make 1st team All-Pro last year, as did Kyle Hamilton and Zack Martin. But I think most people would rank position players over a kicker for that. Kyren Williams also made 2nd team All-Pro.

Good for him. This is quite a story, considering he never played college football and didn't even start kicking in the pros until he was 27.
