The kid is a wuss. He couldn't beat out Book and bailed. Good riddance.
I'm surprised that Kelly didn't comment on this.....after all, they have something in common....they both trashed ND after they left. They could be dance partners now.
He is no wuss. He picked ND. He was ffed over and lied to by purple face He is far better than Book. You gotta get a grip, dude. You're a complete, utterly toxic BK hater, it is what it is. But you can't be calling him a murderer. Which, for the record, none of you haters, at least on this board which is a particularly toxic little mudhole, had been stooping to up to now. And it's not like you forgot about it. You've merely been holding your tongue. But I guess you're running out of ammunition, and probably running a bit scared, now that the season is pretty much upon us, that ND might take a big step backwards with BK not around to lead us to undefeated seasons every year....
So you're upping the ante a little bit. And resorting to taunting the all-time winning coach in ND history as a murderer. So you need to STFU about that.
This is a non story … most players who are passed over and transfer feel they were wronged and lied to, and maybe they were. Or maybe they were misled. Or maybe they heard what they wanted to hear. There are 3 sides to every story, my side, your side and the truth. PJ was a life long ND fan and his dream school did mot work out for him. He’s doing well at BC. This is 100 guys every year.
Pretty much it. And that was the smart thing for him to have done, as far as playing time goes. If he had stayed he could have started for two seasons, patiently waiting for Book to graduate, and then starting as a 4th-year jr and fifth-year sr. Which is not a such a bad deal, and not really any reason to be all frustrated, and demanding, considering how fully established Book was as the starter. And that there was no chance of Book being unseated....
But he didn't want to wait and so he bolted. Is it fair to guess then, that that was the crux of this little kerfuffle, that PJ wanted to know for certain when he was going to get to succeed Book as the starter, and it wasn't for sure at that time whether Book would return for his fifth year? And that's where BK is supposed to have lied to him??
Good lord.... Good riddance is right. If that's what this little 'betrayal' is all about, PJ wanting to know when he gets to take over, and wanting a firm date from the coaches when that would be. Jesus Christ.....

No wrong on me worrying about freeman etc. Yes I am concerned about freeman as a coach just as I would with any new coach

I've lost track of how many stories I've read about how this Notre Dame coach or that Notre Dame coach lied to me, from Nick Buoniconti to Scott Bentley and many others. I'm sure ND shares in the blame, but things don't always work out.
You are off the reservation here. PJ couldn’t beat out Ian for 2 years, mostly because he pressed hard. There was no setup. And I felt sorry for him because I believed PJ loved ND.

First of all he's a Western PA boy so he's far from a wuss...

Brian Kelly and anything QB related has been a disaster. His entire coaching career he's been a mess with the QB position.
If he would've played Book when it was clear after about two games Brandon Wimbush couldn't hit the ocean throwing from the pier Book would've been done on time and it would've been Phil's turn on time.
Instead you know what Brian Kelly did...waited... until Wimbush embarrassed his coach until he finally made the change.
You know why he stuck with Book? He was the safer selection. Just like his play calling and offensive philosophy of terrified to fail he opted for the safer choice at QB. The one who would listen to the almighty perfecting the 3 yard curl and sit route.
Kelly didn't want improvisation during a play. He didn't want high risk high reward plays. Nope...very timid and tentative is the Brian Kelly way just like his choices in QB's

This just confirms what some of us knew about BK and the QB position. He f'd up the QB position his entire tenure at ND.
Book just got released by the saints, Jurkovec will most likely be a first round pick and stick in the NFL Yet purple face started happy feet book over PJ.

It still wouldn't mean Kelly made the wrong choice. Book was two years older and was coming off a good season starting in 2019. In addition, being the better college QB and the better pro prospect aren't necessarily the same thing.
As for Jurkovec, he seems entitled, like he thought he was entitled to the starting job by a certain date. That's not how it works, Phil. He ought to just shut up and focus on his future now.

Now miracles do happen and he could have a great year; and there could be a GM as dumb as the Raiders were when they picked Jumongus.
But in the end he will be nothing in the NFL just like Book.

Started Golson over Rees who repeatedly had to come in and bail him out all year long

Kept starting Golson over Zaire even well after Golson became the turnover king
AND .......
Started Zaire over Kizer. The only reason Kizer played was a broken leg to Zaire. This one might be the dumbest of all as Kizer was miles ahead of Zaire

Started Wimbush over Book...repeatedly...when it was clear after two games Wimbush was the most inaccurate passer in ND history

Starting Wimbush way too long it completely messed up the QB rotation cycle

Played Book repeatedly over and over because...

Safe, warm and cozy option that would consistently make the proper throw of the 3 yard curl and sit route.
You have to give it to Book. He was the good little soldier who wouldn't dare go against the almighty to improvise, adapt and overcome. No sir. He played perfect Brian Kelly offense. Timid and tentative and absolutely positively terrified of failure.

WRONG...
He made the wrong decision by playing Wimbush entirely way too long screwing up the rotation.
I said this exact thing years ago when it happened. I hoped like hell Book would not return for a fifth year because it wouldn't give Phil a true legit chance. (BK gets locked in on "his" guy even though the backup is clearly better)
Then covid happened and Book had to come back for a 17th and final season because the cupboard was completely empty.
I don't think he acts entitled....and trust me nothing irritates me more than entitled arrogance.

I promise you what he's refering to is being sold on the QB cycle (even after getting on canpus) that Book will play early, then Book will leave and it will be Phil's team.

Book wasn't considered a high draft prospect. And most QBs like that return for their 5th years, if they're eligible for one. So it shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone that he returned. That's just the way things work out sometimes. The timing didn't work out too great for Jurkovec. But he could've stayed and started in 2021. But he didn't want to wait. I don't begrudge him transferring. But I am annoyed that he keeps whining and complaining about it 3 years later.
Other teams have made similar moves. Georgia chose Fromm over Fields, then Fields transferred to Ohio State and later became a 1st round pick. It happens all the time.
