What would be the mindset game planning if the was a hint that the opposing DL might possess the kind of quickness discussed post game.

Surely a staff would have considered the potential miss matches and prepared for various personnel matchup corrections.

As the game developed and the DL quickness became a problem, what would be the strategic response?

Would you pack your line tight and try to bully the smaller DL and take opportunistic shots downfield.
Or, would you insert a blocking back, spread your OL splits and have your QB run counter to the blocking back as the OL seals off pursuit?

Any expert analysts out there? (There were plenty of experts here last week)

First Kraemer should have started the game period.

As others have said, limit the space speed has to operate, run at it not sideways. Misdirection. Go look at the 1993 ND-FSU game. FSU had tons of speed, ND had Lee Becton at RB. He ran about a 4.9 in the 40, not very fast. ND used misdirection and Becton was running up and down the field to start the game.

You don't try to get to the edge when you lack the speed to get to the edge. Should have just went power and wore the defense out.

Not an expert, and never claim to be, but I was surprised when we didn't even try some 3 TE/H-back type sets or try going from the pistol.

Also, I don't know what options are available to vary a silent count, but it seemed like our guys, especially the tackles, didn't know the ball was snapped until the DE's were moving. And it seem like Miami was anticipating the snap count well. Our guys couldn't even get off the ball quick enough off to hold. Not sure they're any formation that fixes that, and IMO (nonexpert) that slows the devlepment of those running plays from the shotgun.

Based on Kelly's general apprach to managing crowd noise, and its just my own speculation, but I think the assumption was that we would weather the initial storm with a fast start and quiet the crowd. All season, Miami had gotten off to slow start. We didn't seem prepared for 4 full quarters of deafness and a fast offensive start from Miami. The three first half INT's from our QB's kept the crowd fueled. It also left us with rotten field position early in the game.

They did try to “run at it” and around it but nothing was working. Miami and their crowd completely took our offense apart. Credit them.

Now if the Irish lay an egg next week, then we have a problem.

It seemed to me that Wimbush had a side arm throwing motion that I’ve not seen from him all year.

Although we have run the ball quite often this year, it is not power football. It is more of a finesse approach with the OL doing zone blocking or pulling on slow developing plays. This will not work against fast defenses and the top teams have these type of defenses. For God Sakes, did the coaching staff learn anything from the GA game.

They should have come out with very quick temp and did quick hit running plays instead of the dancing bear routine, while mixing in QB draws and deep posts. Yes, the QB read would not be used that much, but hell, BW hardly ran anyway and when he did the Miami D was were having tea in our backfield. Miami knew all we would throw at them were QB reads and also knew that they were much quicker than us up front. They also knew BK would not change his gameplan. If we were not so predictable we had a shot. This is where BK has also fallen short and never seems to outcoach the opponent.

And noise is no excuse. In fact, even more reason to do what I mentioned above.
