Others may argue for the Final Four season, but this just tops it to me. Now I'm not arguing the best team because this ND team isn't loaded with NBA talent, but in terms of achievements by an ND team in one season this tops it for me. Back then you only had to win 3 to get to the FF. And while ND did beat quite a slate of tough teams that year, this season stacks up better. Some really insane achievements that, combined, ND very well may never get again:
-32 win season
Sweeping tobacco road: Wake, NCSU, UNC (twice), Duke (twice) all going down to ND. That just doesn't happen. UNC on the road and in Greensboro, Duke also in Greensboro. Beat NCSU on the road in perhaps the most underrated game of the year.
-7-1 regular season record against the rest of the Sweet 16. That's ridiculous.
-ACC champions. And its not like this was a down year. Duke is a strong 1 seed, UVa was strong (altho ND didn't beat them),
UNC very good.
-Elite 8. Won 3 games in the tourney. Hasn't happened in over 35 years.
IF ND manages to win tomorrow, of course this will be moot and there won't be any debate. But even as it stands I think we just witnessed the best season.
