Don't understand why he would visit ND?. Sure to stay in the South and sign with home state Alabama or Auburn or at least an SEC team ? Just visiting to use his officials or curious about ND ? All I have are questions . Does Davis want to take a different path, like Te'o .

Want to add a few more observations . It was reported that Davis said that Alabama is not necessarily a lock even though his father graduated there and is pushing Ben to commit to Alabama .This whole visit thing to ND?

It's funny you say that. My Dad and I were talking about Davis 15 minutes ago. While I was hopeful, my Dad thinks this recruit is a complete waste of the coaches time as he's certain he's going to Bama.

I think it's great he is visiting It says a lot about Denson as a recruiter to get him to come in January, Not even a game . This may become very interesting if he loves his visit. Denson is a great coach. Denson and Sanford are legit. BVG ??? Does this guy even recruit ????? I will make a prediction. IF ND gives up 40 point to OSU BVG is done.

I'm kind of hoping he is done regardless of the outcome - his sample is big enough already.

I don't think any highly rated recruit that agrees to an official visit is a waste of time. Its easy to fall in love with ND once you've seen it!

Agree. If a recruit is willing to take a visit, then there's a chance. If he goes to Bama, so what?

Peres, haven't followed Davis' recruitment. Has he made repeated statements that quality of education is important to him and a major consideration? Hope so.

With Hayes, maybe a domino effect and others follow . One thing ,top high school stars keep track where other top high school players are committing .Want to play for winning programs .Also ,they look at the depth chart to see the playing time that they'll get as freshmen .

big shoes to fill at LB ! plus ND will need to replace that other guy: Smith!

Davis is certainly a very, very LONG shot but if history has taught us anything we will probably lose a commit and probably gain one that we didn't expect. Maybe that someone is Davis

I think this would be bigger than manti. I always thought we had a reasonable shot with te'o for some unknown reason. plus his dad always used the phrase "paddle his own canoe" to discuss the Hawaii pipeline to usc. so while I was surprised, I would be much more shocked if Davis chose ND. Now if after his visit he starts sounding like Caleb Kelly did, I will bump our chances up a bit. but right now I think its bama or Georgia for davis.

Why do thousands (if not millions) of North Americans play the lottery despite their unrealistically low chance of winning? Because they see it as a calculated, reasonably priced risk given the lucrative award available.

Notre Dame can easily afford to come have Davis visit and even if there is a 1% chance that he leaves the state of Alabama, ND needs to visit 4-5 of those guys each year... You never know when a Stephon Tuitt, a Manti Te'o, a Jerry Tillery, a Justin Tuck, etc, etc, will become the 1%.

Or Aaron Lynch. He helped us win games as a true frosh like the game against Michigan State when he was in total beast mode and the first half of the Florida State bowl game. If he had his head screwed on straight he would have been a all time great at ND. Great pass rush Dends usually are a French fry short of a happy meal anyway.

Yes because we have so much talent on the defense you could coach them and limit Ohio to 20! I am not sure another coach will do better, possibly, but I get sick of saying the same thing over and over... some people are blind to think we have big time talent across the board on defense. No pass rush and below average secondary, I think he has done a better job than most could have at ND.

Hey whatever, fire the guy and bring in someone new. Next season's defense could be worse considering we are losing our top players and we haven't seen any of the younger kids step up. Recruiting looks decent but besides Hayes there are no kids I see that look like immediate impact players which is what we need. The top talk about our recruits right now is over a linemen lol... not that I don't love to see a new stud up front come in, Kelly has done a great job recruiting on the o-line and we need that, but we still need big players who can make a difference. Obviously time will tell and I honestly hope I am completely wrong but I have learned over the decades to live in reality when it comes to ND football.
