At least he's not pulling a Kelly and interviewing prior to the NCG. He's focused on prepping for the game.

Been reading these little articles from yahoo for past 3 days now.

It’s all a bunch of BS. Forget the nfl.
All they do is cause distractions to college programs when they damn well know there going to hire another recycled current nfl coach. .
Just my opinion.

NFL coaching salaries have sky rocketed in recent years. You got coaches making $20M/year.

If Freeman is chasing the highest pay possible in his profession (and lets face it, many coaches are) then the NFL is an extremely enticing place to be.

So any time these reports of coaches being interviewed for jobs comes up, its definitely something as fans that make your ears perk up a bit.

There's basically been reports since about week 8 tying Freeman to the Chicago Bears (or one of the other 10+ nfl coaching openings this upcoming off season)

Where's there's smoke there's usually some fire.

The previous Bears coach made 5 mil a year. A lot of the stuff you say is just you talking out your ass

Freeman to the Bears isn't happening

It doesn't matter what the previous coach made. The highest paid coaches in the NFL make significantly more money than the highest paid coaches in college. If Freeman is chasing the highest pay in his profession, an NFL opportunity will be enticing.

Yes it does. And he wouldn't get near the top of the NFL if he left now

There's only 9 NFL coaches that will making more money than him next year

He’s not going pro. How many times do I have to say. ESP. Da bears. Where coaches and qbs go to die

I read that - as a whole - NFL coaches make $2 million more than CF coaches. But it's the national exposure of the NFL - and TV exposure - that draw the top coaches to the NFL. They all want to excel at the highest level.

With that said, I believe Freeman is solid with ND

Bears isn't an organization that is going to pony up the money like that.

They still owe Eberflus around 10 mil

MFs buyout is probably at least 40 mil

Then they would have to pay MF at least 9 mil to get him to leave.

They aren't spending that much money for a guy who has never coached in the NFL and who isn't an offensive guy to go with Caleb

It's all for clicks

If he leaves for the NFL he'll definitely get a raise on his current salary plus if he performs at an elite level in the NFL he'll definitely get a fair market value salary for his performance which is significantly higher than college.

listen linda

there's also the benefit that the NFL evens the playing field out (you aren't notre dame facing osu with a way less talented roster at any point) due to the parity in the sport and you aren't in the recruiting rat race begging teenagers to play football at your school year around or falling behind

There's a lot of HC job openings this offseason in the NFL. If the Bears are interested, other teams will be interested as well.

MF is having the type of season that is going to get the attention of the biggest organizations in football. Freeman oozes potential too. He's only 3 years in, producing better than much of the field of coaches.

I also haven't liked MFs responses when asked about the NFL noise. He's blown the question off and given canned cliched answers that leave the possibility open.

Wanna bet on this ?

If Freeman leaves for the NFL (and I do not think he will, not after this year at least) then this board better be shut down for like a week. And half the people here better preemptively check themselves into a hospital.

If he wins a Title people will still love him

man I keep wondering how you can keep getting dumber and dumber but you do

Notre Dame Coach Marcus Freeman ain't going anywhere! Notre Dame is a perfect fit for him, and he knows it! He'll make enough money to take care of himself, and his family, quite well, and in the process become a Notre Dame Legend!

Marcus Freeman is a genuine human being. I don’t know what his career aspirations are, but I have no doubt that he loves Notre Dame and that’s weird coming from Ohio State grad. I appreciate everything he has done tremendously. Nothing he has never said has made me doubt his commitment. Marcus is not a flake.

The Bears have incredible history. That is still a great job, and things can turn around quickly. Look at the Commanders.

He won't be able to command with the same authority he has now ever in the NFL.
I believe Marcus stays. If his message about helping and coaching these young players is true, which I believe he's sincere. He stays.

Marcus and I made a deal.

If he wins a NC, he can do what he wants.

But since I championed him staying for at least 5 years at ND on this chat forum, he otherwise stays.

He definitely wants to punch some guys out here...I wouldn't introduce myself...and you know who you are.

:D

Why doesn't he just coach both teams? Chicago is only 90 miles away. He could coach ND on Saturday and Chicago on Sunday. He could win twice every weekend and double his pay. Then he could have 6 more kids. When I wake up from this bad dream I will figure out the away schedule.

No kidding? You are brilliant.
He makes almost double what the last Bears coach made. The org is not known for paying coaches so doubt he will get alot more than he is making now. Nothing to worry about with the Bears

I am a huge Freeman fan. However, no way he would be a successful HC in the NFL without a great OC and DC. He would have to have connections to a great coordinators.

No way he leaves this season. He has it made at ND. No reason to jump into the fire at the NFL level.

Not sure there’s a better job than ND head coach for someone who values his faith and family as much as Freeman. Read elsewhere a few months ago that his wife and six kids love the ND experience and sense of family, and religious focus. With his highly paid extension, I don’t think the opportunity to coach in the league is compelling at this stage in his life.

MF is in a good spot. Why would you leave ND for the bears? He has a guaranteed contract for six more years

Also I think that Marcus Freeman and his defensive background is going to keep Notre Dame's defense competitive at the highest level as long as he's head coach so losing Golden would suck because he's a proven commodity at this point but I don't expect a bunch of defensive drop off especially with the youth on this team and recruiting leaning defense heavy

Rumor around Cincy is that Golden will be the Bengals next DC.
I know they WANT to interview Golden. But is he going to leave ND for that job ? Is the Rumor supposedly a done deal ? I would think golden isn’t interviewing anywhere until after the NCG.

Update :
Looks like it’s between golden and the raiders dc
Caveat being does golden want to leave ? He has a son who is a freshman at ND and he has a 9 million dollar buyout. On top of being one of the highest paid coaches in college football.

I think he thinks about it but gives ND 2-3 more years then goes the nfl as a DC.
Just my opinion.
