This weekend had a long talk with a close friend of former Bama, former Virginia, former Western Carolina QB Philip Sims. Apparently, a Bama booster promised the family 100K if he came to Bama and started. Money was exchanged and the same booster came back to the family after he flunked out of UVA.
Also, since he lost out to AJ McCarron, he was told by the offensive coordinator that he would never see the field at Bama. So he left for UVA because of a prior relationships with Mike London and because he had friends on the team. He was not happy when no money was offered and he was required to attend real classes, something he said he rarely did at Bama.
Can't verify the story. I know the kid who told the story and his mom. Great people. They saw Sims in Arizona during Thanksgiving.
Anyway, just wanted to pass it along. Of course, there is nothing to do about it and no smoking gun as Sims never got the 100K, but did get some money for his commitment to Bama.
