Attack on Bourbon St

Shocking

I read this an hour ago.

What in the hell is wrong with some people
Conflicting press conference. Not a terrorist attack but the FBI taking over the investigation. Then the NOLA Chief says go out & enjoy New Orleans. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

The continued gratuitous violence in this country is maddening. It's becoming commonplace and sadly acceptable to a point. I'm 55 and don't care much for large crowds anymore. Things like this make me staying in with family and friends all the more enjoyable and grateful.

It was blocked off, this idiot drove through the barricades. Then got out of his vehicle and started firing his weapon on the crowd.
10 dead, over 30 injured
Let's see what they release on the dead suspect. It mirrors the deadly attack at the Christmas market in Germany.

They did have barriers

Drove past them
Here in NYC do the terrorist attacks like the car hitting the cyclists on the West side Hwy. Going forward they might have to use barriers that spring up from the ground or those big cement barriers. Wasn’t their in attack in Wisconsin under same circumstances.

He shot two police officers

One of the problems with trying to prevent these incidents are the HIPAA laws and individuals who are mentally ill.

It’s very difficult for family members and close friends to intervene and get the patient the medical treatment they need

Even if family members notify law-enforcement that a relative poses a potential threat, there’s very little that law-enforcement can do.

Mental illness is dramatically different from all the other types of illnesses in that the patient rarely believes that they’re suffering from an illness, hence they don’t seek treatment, whereas patients with heart issues, cancer and other illnesses usually seek immediate medical attention.

It’s very sad when people go out to enjoy themselves and never return home.

Got conflicting reports from presser. The mayor of New Orleans said it was a terrorist attack. The FBI said too early to call it a terrorist attack but would be the lead investigator going forward. Also that they are look for IED explosives.

I completely agree

Whether the person who did this was foreign or domestic its terrorism to me and many, many peoples lives will never be the same. The scab gets pulled off of America yet again.

Thank you sir. Happy New Year to you and here's hoping you find some joy after your very difficult ordeal.
Heavy sigh
Our 26th anniversary was a week before Christmas so December was trying, this board believe it or not has helped so I tip my hat to all of you on it....thank you
Happy New Years
Ps: Please don't take your love ones for granted

I completely understand. It's been 12 plus years for me. Thankfully in the last few years I've found someone I'm incredibly fond of. It's still hard though. Incredibly thankful for what I had but sometimes the sadness just gets me.

What scab ?

What kind of bullshit is that?

We live in a free society and as such incidents like this can occur.

It doesn’t help that we’ve let thousands of terrorists come across our southern border unchecked

If you don’t like America, I’ll pay your one-way ticket to anywhere you want to go on the condition that you don’t return !

I’m going to thread lightly here. I don’t want to begin my New Year in the penalty box. My thoughts & prayers are with the victims. Secondly, not sure if this game is going to go off.

i’m puzzled as to why the authorities haven’t released the individuals identity

They have identified the truck as having crossed the southern border two days ago at Eagle Pass
Because the press has been told to bottle it up until the Feds can influence the narrative

Possibility of it being from Mexico embarrasses the Feds yet again about the border they said was secure for 3.5 years…

I'll make a rare social comment on this.

1st of all, thought and prayers for the victims. Tragic. RIP.

2nd, I note that so many abuse the generosity, freedom, and opportunity of a maligned USA. I'm a Croatian immigrant and do it differently. I love the USA. I detest obviously terrorists of all kinds. But also the insane partisan and identity politics inflaming these kinds of things.

I introduced my cousin who is an Irish fan together with a Dawg friend. Both luckily are there. Both luckily are safe. Both found commonality in being fans, good natured rivalry...no extremism. May the best team win.

Enjoy the new year day. We carry on and defy assholes trying to ruin the USA. Be they terrorists...or malcontents using these things to promote some kind of agenda. Social media is on fire with this.

College football is Americana. I'll be rooting for Notre Dame with passion today. Grimly as well as positively. Embrace the good.

Same thing happened in Toronto a few years back...guy was not a terrorist...was not judged mentally ill...he was an incel (Involuntary Celibate) who couldn't get a girl friend...ran down mostly women...takes all kinds...
