Just listened to a press conf w Kelly . He was discussing his safeties trying to do too much and not simply doing what they are coached to do . He discussed trusting the coaches - I couldn't help but think that this is the reason Kelly will not take Joe Schmidt off the field the kid is an assignment junkie . He may not always make the play but he will always be in the neighborhood to do so .

Kelly gives points for doing what the play book calls out for - he is not big on kids going off script -- which I personally applaud and admire about his coaching style . Golson goes off script disaster -- Morgan goes off script disaster - Kizer goes off script pick vs Clemson .

Kelly knows his business fellas -- REALLY knows his craft . Could be why ND is once again in the hunt for a National Championship -- just shut up and do what your told is kind of the message.

Kelly and staff are getting paid to do the thinking .

Great post. Got me pumped up for tomorrow and the weeks coming up.

Love the business like approach that the staff takes. It has rubbed off on the players.

Kelly has had
12 - 11 -12-11 win seasons in the last eight years . He would have won 11 games last yr sans injuries and he would have won 11 games in 2013 if Golson plays .

Guy is pretty good

People's expectations were unreasonable for Joe. He is a good solid inside backer. People I believe #1 just have to complain about something. We are two turnovers on offense away from being 9-0 for God sakes.
Moreover you realize who wouid be sitting at #1 right now had they beat Clemson. There's no debate in that. Yet something needs complained about.
Like we could be such a better team and probably be 8-1 if Joe wasn't playing. . . Hey wait a sec...........

Good post and I have no doubt you're right. I love that BK demands accountability but hate that it takes so long for some of his players to learn his system.

I can only speak for myself but I was more about looking forward to Stanford and McCaffrey(sic?) and Henry for Bama. Or Zeke Elliott. ND will face some legit running games over the next few months.

that's not fair. none of us have seen enough of morgan to make that assertion. I'm certainly not going to use last year as a reference point. a true freshman being pressed into action as a result of an injury gets a pass in my book.

ECHO -- If a player for whatever reason can't make timely proper decisions on the field he won't play in front of someone who can .

Josh Adams vs Dexter Williams would be a classic example . Williams HS tapes vs Josh Adams weren't even close . Williams was much more dynamic but he has not mastered the nuances of the position as per Kelly today so he has gotten 33% of the carries Adams has .

Morgan is not ready for the bright lites on game day YET -- ergo Joe plays every snap . When Morgan is ready he will play, if he can beat out the frosh Coney next season.

No one masters something by standing on the sidelines watching someone else who btw is also not fully nailing it ... Just sayin

BK is all about assignment/responsibilities.

Remember the Michigan game some years ago there and he pulled AL. His reason was that AL would not play containment and kept rushing the QB.

That's fair and thanks for pointing that out. Morgan had double digit tackles in back to back to back games last season and that was after the Irish defense was decimated with injuries. I've already embarrassed myself with my posts about Joe Schmidt so i'll end with saying that every player in the history of football has missed assignments that have resulted in big plays and/or TDs. I wouldn't hold last season against Nyles Morgan.
