up to 13 this week. How did this team lose to See anfird or Marshall. Tenn got curbed stomped.
B moe is making a name for himself when are these teams going to learn just to stay out of neighborhood being he is in beast mode

A win this week coupled with a loss or two with top 10 teams just might catapult us into the top 10

If you told me before the season started ND is 8-3 going into the game vs USC, I would have thought ND's losses would have been to OSU, Clemson, and either BYU or UNC.
The losses to Marshall and Stanford were ugly, but it looks like MF and the staff have righted the ship.

Looking at the schedule in the summer I saw ND at 9-3 or 10-2. My gut was sandwich losses. SC and Ohio state. I always felt like ND would beat Clemson. I just saw the NFL style rebuild of SC as being problematic for ND. They haven’t earned their record from development and coaching but rather assembling talented pieces together. But they’re still really good.

I'm sorry, but we are going up against an outstanding offense in So. Cal. BC had a joke at QB yesterday.
I don't think we can match TD for TD with SC. Their motivation will be sky high to lay a beat down on us to improve CFB standing.

Had some good talent coming in but a big question mark at QB and a lot of new coaches. Transition was tough, but I like where the program is heading. MF might be ND's best HC Recruiter since Holtz.
Willingham, who didn't recruit, went 10-3 his first season, that was his high point. Davie 7-5, Kelly 8-5.

I really hope this group of players can get these last two wins.

Growing up I cannot tell you how many times SC ruined NDs season. SC is staring at a potential playoff spot. I would love to see the Irish go into the Coliseum and take the men of Troy down. It will be tough. If they play the way they did against Clemson and BC then they have a chance. Fingers crossed

Agree. Let’s ruin their season.

Stopping or slowing down Caleb Williams is the key. I really like Xavier Watts speed blitzing from the corner. Thats what we need. Will Jayson Ademiola play?

This team is just getting better and better and could end up being a top 10 team when all is said and done
From your lips to God’s ears. Let’s hope the Oline plays like a unit spurned by Joe Moore himself, controls the game and Benji becomes a legend. Top 10 (dare I say top 5 post similar convincing boll win?)

Or they are due for one of their inexcusable stinkers, get curb stomped and fall out of the top 20 again.

This is no longer the predictable ND of the last 5 years. Cardiac kids

Beating USC will put ND into the top 10 and there will be some talking about the committee and how they always claim its where teams finish, not where they start. It's the best 4 at seasons end.

If for anything, ESPN will use it to drum up drama and sales.

"ND went toe to toe with number 2, beating number 4 and number 5. As the season ends now, they are one of the top 4 teams in CBF".

ND sells. So it will be fun, they will get opposing fans spun up, in the end ND will be left out probably listed at number 6 by the committee.

Add a bowl win and you could see ND sneak into the top 5 when its all over.

A loss to USC, a bowl win, top 25 finish. First season. 9-4. Thats about what everyone on the board said they will be with losses to OSU, Clemson, USC and BYU/UNC/Bowl.

I have to ask...

Until the expansion happens....you know...a REAL playoff the punch and judy show will continue. It's nothing more than a beauty contest. A pageantry of the prettiest.
Always has, always will be exactly that with a limit of 4 teams.

Today's power football version beats OSU in week 1 and we're sitting at #2 behind immediately behind Georgia. Given Georgia's 16-6 win over UK people would be arguing that we should be #1

Sadly for the first 7 weeks we were still doing the 12 year Brian Kelly dance of kinda sorta GOOD at passing and running but not GREAT at either.

Fast forward up to today and we still aren't great at passing (not really good either) we're absolutely positively GREAT with power football and thus it makes our passing game effective if used effectively. Run run run and lull the Defense to sleep as they keep creeping up to the LOS and then Mayer slips behind them wide open as example.

Back to the beauty pageant....the loss to Marshall was far worse than Stanford. Only based on perception but sadly... it's... based.... on perception. That loss makes us ugly.
More than the Stanford loss.

The above matters a lot less come 2024 possibly...2025 more likely and for sure by 2026 as the playoff is going to 12 teams.

When the great day anew comes we'd be in the playoff and you can bet nobody wants to deal with 60 mins of Audric Estime

Somewhere Dabo Swinney is scratching his head.

I think the loss to Marshall was worse to the fans but not the voters. I feel if we hang on and beat Stanford your running in the Top 7 now at 9-2. The talk would be rough start, Trap game with Marshall, lost our QB. Won 7 straight. I’d bet we are ranked just behind LSU. Just a guess.

I agree. Losing to Marshall was pretty bad. But let’s not kid ourselves. That Stanford loss was inexcusable at that point. They are horrible. However a win this week would be a major step forward. SC may not be perfect but they are very talented especially offensively. This game will be the biggest challenge this year. I think Ohio State was a bigger but SC will be very tough. Well hopefully they can pull off the upset.

I think if ND has only one lose to Ohio State they would be team #4 in the CFP.

Maybe...but the problem is when the moment came with us vs an LSU...ot any other outlier for a major bowl bid...

Many on that committee will say yeah...but...Marshall.

It's wrong but it's what they do.

Those days are long gone my friend.
UCF getting left out of a playoff...
Funny how everyone loves connecting dots with CFB...just not with teams outside the P5 and it's bullshit.
UCF was the only team to finish undefeated including beating the only team (Auburn) that beat the media's darling (Alabama)
I know god damn well that committee thought we'll put them against Auburn and show everyone why we left them out. Problem is UCF didn't play along and decided to whip War Eagle's ass.
Uh-oh...now what?

For starters ESPN promptly removed the slogan "now everyone has a chance" from all it's promotional material. Commercials were immediately modified.
Remember that nonsense?

Second thing is it helped paved the way for Cincinnati to make it last year. No way a second undefeated non p5 school was going to be left out.

All that said there's still a group of folk that thumb their nose at Marshsll and the like and that ND loss to them would keep them outside looking in I'm afraid.

We'll never know but if we had beat every team but Marshall I don't see them giving us a top 4 spot.

That elitist mentality loves looking down the nose of those non p5 schools...many of which can beat P5 teams all day long and twice on Saturday's.

I could be wrong, and if USC beats us we will never know. However, if we beat USC I will come just shy a guaranteeing we will here someone say “what about ND” on game day. Just for the pure teaser to keep you watching.

Someone should say that.
This new found comittment to power football can't be ignored. Others have tried it but we are doing it better than the other guy.
A real comittment to power football promotes what we're good at.

Maybe Rees will stay comitted to it beyond this year.

Balance is definitely nice but you aren't great at balance just because you run and pass 50/50
We used to force balance and weren't grear at either thing.

I'd rather be great at one thing and the other will fill itself out as time goes on.
Forcing balance keeps us without an identity.

We need an identity and build around it. In other words be great at power running and the passing game will eventually come along. Kids are still suckers for winning and being a part of it.

Ironic when you think about it. All those pass happy years and we can't recruit perimeter talent and you watch if we continue to dominate good teams with power football perimeter help will come.

LET’s not get ahead of ourselves and deal with the task at hand FIRST ……….. USC

My wife is a nurse practitioner & cardio thoracic nurse, I am a pastor. We are on the mission field, we went to be part of a hospital, to start a NICU and for me to help with the local churches. The ministries/hospital (Hope Matters) leadership there is in massive sin, financially and morally, It has been exposed and is being dealt with. It is a great experience for our boys (5,7)... and yes definitely not a place on the travel agencies brochure, but it is beautiful... the people are amazing! Massive oppression and abuse on so many levels! Good to be home for the holidays!

Bless you. My folks were medical missionaries in the 70’s. Your kids will relish the memories. One room schoolhouses, being the only Caucasian in the room, ultimately served me well

if ever there was a year of parity, 2022 is as close as it gets; any team in the Top 20 can beat any other team in the Top 20! Or lose to them! This year kinda resembles an NCAA BB tourney
