This guy

Had better start updating his resume. These injuries are becoming stupid.

Some of it. Not all of it. For instance there is no controlling the Zaire thing. However
J Jones - torn MCL
T Folston - torn ACL
S Crawford - torn ACL

And we don't know what the actual injury to Smythe is. Just 'ankle'. I imagine it will be discussed at the press conference tomorrow.

I wouldn't in any way put Sebastian (foot fracture) or Zaire on Longo. But part of Strength and Conditioning, is you know.......... Conditioning, and teaching how to roll and more with a hit to help reduce these issues.

I'm not sure I know a team over the past 2 years that has had more season ending injuries than ND We've had 4 and havent even played 3 games yet. Hell by the end of the year will we have a starter on offense at this rate?

I only ask because I don't know. Thanks.

IB,

I've been saying that since the Rudolph hammy injury back in 2010. The irrational fans that believe Longo can do no wrong need to just step away and shut up. These non-stop injuries are the direct result of his poor strength training tactics, IMO. I agree that he needs to be let go.

The injuries to Jones, Zaire, and Folston are way more back breaking.

Smythe is nice depth .. those other 3 guys were critical elite players on the team at razor thin positions on the team.

It could be any number of things. The training from the coaches, the conditioning from Longo and company, the equipment, maybe something to do with UA switch over (someone mentioned that on the Soundoff board). I have never been a big fan of Longo beyond the fact that he got a very out of shape and uncompetitive team back in game shape. Remember before Kelly and Longo and company, there was no training table, there was not many of the basic practices at many programs to help ensure success.

And yes injuries happen, and yes every team gets them. But this is getting insane. I watch, read, study as much college football as just about anyone you are going to meet. And I haven't seen a team in my almost 40 years of life go through the number of injuries ND has in this just this last 2 years.

The combination of poor conditioning, inadequate training, the insanely difficult schedule week in week out, I think plays a huge role in it. But honestly this is a case of bad luck, when it rains it pours. Longo probably does have his faults, but he has done wonders with some of the players on this team like Chris Brown, Sheldon Day, Joe Schmidt, and Corey Robinson to name a few.

ND has been snake bitten with season-ending injuries under Longo's conditioning care. Not saying he needs to go but ND needs to look hard at bringing someone on the staff that can help in this area.

You're out of your mind if you think Malik or Folstons injuries have anything to do with Longo.. Not to mention Crawford has been with the program for how long?

It is worst than you think. We have lost five players.

-DT Jarron Jones (MCL)
-CB Shaun Crawford (ACL)
-RB Tarean Folston (ACL)
-QB Malik Zaire (ankle)
-TE Durham Smythe (knee/shoulder)

Something needs to change. Look at ga tech's qb, he gets hit on every play and as far as I know has been seriously injured. Same thing with the qb from navy I watched the uva qb get hit a few times and he bounced right back up. I hold my breath on every play now just hoping the announcers don't say a ND player is down.

big difference from getting hit to to getting rolled up onto

Do we seriously think that it's the strengthen and conditioning coaches fault that MK has a fractured ankle? Or that MCL/ACL tears are his fault. Geez, this is truly the most ridiculous thing I have ever read on this board. You know sometimes it's nobody's fault when *it happens.

Thank you .... a voice of reason (and common sense).

LOL. Texas, Virginia.

I don't know if any of you remember but UGA went through a spell a few years back where it seemed like every year half of there team was getting season ending injuries. point is that it happens to lots of teams from time to time and not just our irish

I hate it when any player on any team is lost for the season with an injury. Sucks for everyone involved. But that's football.

Does anyone who wants to stand in judgement of the S+ C coach have any suggestions as to exercises that would prevent someone from tearing a ligament, and if that poster has an exercise in mind that would prevent those injuries you don't think a staff of trainers and doctors would have knowledge of those same exercises .

I played competitive tennis for 12 yrs I had 6 surgeries related to over activity -- life cycle of NFL RB"S is what 3 -4 yrs . It's an insanely violent sport, I am in awe that kids are not carted off minute to minute .

If our injuries were torn or pulled muscles you could blame that on kids not being physically prepared correctly. Torn ligaments in the knee or freak rollup injuries are not in that category.

You have got to be f'ing kidding me

I am convinced that Notre Dame is jinxed, and I say it happened when we signed the NBC deal. When we did that, everyone was saying we'd out recruit everyone in the nation and win national championships. Instead, we suffered fluke losses, heartbreaking losses, embarrassments on the field and off, coaching turmoil, you name it. We have to cancel that contract to please the football gods.
