An Open Letter to Brian Kelly

stopped reading at "your recruiting is some of the best i've seen..." o_O

from an overall perspective, he is a poor recruiter. He is what was feared when hired.
Completely disagree! Notre Dame and Stanford pretty much have to compete for the same caliber recruit, correct? However Stanford has more sustained success than ND, correct? Why is that? Stanford has a "system" and recruits to that system and sticks to it. Notre Dame gets kids that are very talented yet has a shi**y "system" that is conducive to failure. If BK doesn't adapt to a new offensive philosophy he will truly epitomize the definition of insanity.

^ then we disagree; defensive recruiting has been abysmal in the overall design.
And the play on the field supports my statement. And it is not going to improve for the same reasons: poor recruiting.

We have to wait to see what QB's and RB's ND will face in '17 to really know what quality the opponents will actually be.

I don't understand why, with all of the resources/data that's available to the public on recruiting, people continue to perpetuate this false notion that recruiting is good at Notre Dame. It kills me.

the only posters who do think recruiting is 'good', do not follow recruiting. They see the ND list and that is their universe. The other teams are recruiting too! And much better.

Please compare Penn State, Wisconsin, Colorado, Dukes, etc recruiting to Notre Dame's over the past 5 years.

you do it! perhaps you have a way to explain the poor defense while you are doing it!

you really know nothing about national recruiting do you!

"and you know how to develop players, especially quarterbacks."

This guy must not be watching the games too closely. Kelly is the ultimate QB killer.

How can you say that? southern cal only sacked Kizer 6 times.

4 star ranked 17th at position, 51st in the state
4 star ranked 9th at position, 17th in the state
4 star ranked 3rd at position, 6th in state

Which one of these quarterbacks will most likely win the Heisman? Hint 2 of these Qbs are on the ND roster?

As for the D they need a coach who will teach heart and passion to make a play. Watch Jackson and Johnson's long runs during the game and tell me which players are playing with heart? That is not a talent issue.

Recruiting is good at ND if ND were some 2nd tier team in a P5 conference.

NDs competition is not the 128 schools in the FBS ... NDs recruiting-competition is the top 5% of schools in the FBS competing consistently for playoff spots/national championships.

Alabama, OSU, FSU, USC, Georgia, LSU, Clemson, Michigan, Texas will get a huge bump under Herman ... these are the programs in which to compare NDs talent to. And ND, despite having more wealth, prestige, larger networks, and way more fan support than half of these programs, is still on the outside looking in.

And this doesn't even touch on the fact that 1. ND is extremely one-sided in their recruiting. Outside of some solid LB classes in recent years, the rest of the defensive recruiting has been ugly (Willingham-esque). And 2. NDs been hit hard with suspensions/defections/etc. to their highest profile recruits during the majority of the BK era.

I recently wrote a long post on the subject with further breakdowns here: https://notredame.forums.rivals.com...dea-that-recruiting-has-been-good-here.97443/

ND is being nailed right now in southern cal....

7 seasons is more than enough time to build a program if you are a good coach. 4-8 is enough to fire a coach after 7 seasons.
