Alcohol now banned in USC football locker rooms after games?

Beer in a college football locker room? That has to be a new one?

"Steve Sarkisian said mix of alcohol, meds caused irresponsible behavior"

He said his behavior was a combination of combining alcohol and medication. He said it wasn't a lot of alcohol but that he "responded in a way that was not acceptable for me or the university." He did not reveal what kind of medication, but said the university was aware of it.

"The moral of the story is this: when you mix meds with alcohol, sometimes you say things or do things you regret," Sarkisian said.

He added: “The way I acted was irresponsible. There are things we’re going to work on for me, moving forward."

Sarkisian was asked if he had a drinking problem.

"No, I don't believe so," Sarkisian said. "But through Pat (Haden) and through the university I'm going to find that out. I'm going to go to treatment, I'm going to deal with it. In the meantime, I'm going to be the football coach here."

He also swore off alcohol for the rest of the season."

"Sure, without a doubt," he said. "I want to win a championship and I believe we have a championship quality team and that's what my focus is."

Several players spoke with the media after Sarkisian's comments, including senior QB Cody Kessler.

"We support him 100 percent," said Kessler, who added that Sarkisian met with the team and apologized. "He came to us as a man and looked us in the face and apologized."

I have no doubt it was alcohol and meds that lead to the problem. but I don;t see how that helps Sark's case. How about this: if you know you are taking meds don't drink; at least on a night of a public team event. I think he should be fired but I hear they are giving him one strike. Maybe a suspension but no loss of job.

Yep, no drinking problem. Everything's fine. Fight On.

(That wasn't directed at you Beach, we posted about the same time)

Are you hearing a suspension could still be in the works? Seems like they would have announced that today instead of making it a week long circus.

I think the timing is in sarkisian's favor. There's no way that southern cal would fire its' HC 2 weeks before the season starts. I am guessing the "private searches" have commenced, but he'll survive with a good season.

PS I have always like sarkisian and his show of mercy last year was good sportsmanship.... kessler could have had 10 TD passes....easy.....

The story is getting more legs...

"Critics point to the 2012 Sun Bowl, where Kiffin sported a large scrape on his forehead. Sources within the football program said Kiffin suffered the cut when he fell in the hotel after drinking. Before the game, a female employee applied make up to the scrape and Kiffin wore sunglasses despite the cold conditions for the game."

"When asked by a reporter what happened, Kiffin said he was horsing around with linebacker Hayes Pullard. Later, Pullard denied Kiffin’s version and expressed dismay for being dragged into the incident.

Kiffin also had a verbal confrontation one night in El Paso with his offensive coordinator Kennedy Polamalu. Witnesses said alcohol contributed to the argument. Kiffin later denied any confrontation took place while Polamalu declined to comment."

What's being ignored here is the danger involved in mixing meds with alcohol. Deadly combination. I don't care what kind of control you think you have the mixture impairs not only judgement but memory as well. This June I had my best friend for 45 years (58 years old) die from the toxic cocktail. Was taking pain meds for a shoulder fracture and broken arm along with some intestinal issues getting ready to require intense life and death surgery. The meds only helped so much and he couldn't sleep so naturally he was also taking sleep aids. When that wouldn't work he would slam down several cocktails. Then he would forget he took his meds and take them again. It finally caught up with him.

Found him dead in his bedroom the morning of June 10th. Coincidentally the day of his 40th HS reunion which I was driving him to that night.

sounds to me that he has a history of alcohol issues. hope he gets the help he appears to need. maybe he should step away for a while.

If they were going to suspend him, it would have been done. At this point, I don't see how they didnt suspend him, I think it would have been best for everyone. They could have whacked him for two games and it wouldnt have effected the season, we open with two cupcakes before the schedule takes off for real.

But in case you missed it, he did do "up downs" for the team. This guy is something else.

Hmmmm???? Does the temperature dictate whether you need sunglasses? I always thought it was the sunshine.

I agree beach, but I really hope he doesn't lose his job over this.

The more that comes out about Sark, the more it sounds like he's been on the path to self destruction for a while, which could be accelerating. . I think that's what I'd worry about affecting the season. Its sounds like he really does need treatment, and I hope he finds help that works. But with the number of hours these coaches work during a season, I don't know how he makes that a priority until after the season. And then he'll have to finish recruiting. There's never a good time to confront a drinking problem, which is why people usually have to hit bottom before they do. And they usually don't go down easy. Gotta wonder where Sark's bottom may be.

I'll leave the snarky comments about USC leaving Sark's discipline to his players for some other time.

He lives in LA and can roll with the culture down there. All he needs to do is check himself into undisclosed "treatment" for a couple of days and then everything will be forgiven.

I haven't followed the saga, but was alcohol mentioned as playing a role in his recent divorce? If so, then that's a red flag, and he needs to deal with the problem before it really gets out of control.

I'm just familar with rumors consistent with stuff that often results with divorces and is consistent with an alcohol issue. I have a family member that teaches at UW and there was talk of character concerns before he left for USC. I don't know what's true so people can find it on their own.

I think the only important thing is whether Sark believes it played a role in his marriage failing. Alcohol issues involve a whole bunch of behavior other than just being drunk. It takes some help to become aware of that, which of course makes it hard to decide you need help in the first place.

Have no doubt??? ... I have no doubt that you would post this .... I on the other hand think he is flat out lying ... it is second nature there .... Like when they tell incoming frosh WR's they can start right away when the roster already is starting 2 future NFL Wr's

People apparently will believe anything at SC

You may want to read before reacting. I was not posting an excuse. Just the opposite. Anyone should know not to mix proscription drugs with alcohol, especially before a school event.
To respond to the more rational posts I don't see how the school can think he should not be suspended. Marc Tyler, a 20 year old kid, was suspended for jokiing after drinking at a bar totally unassociated with team events because he embarrassed the team. Seems like this should apply to Sark as well,

Based upon anything specific? Or just the good old anyone involved with USC is an evil scumbag, similar to FSU?

Its pretty clear you haven't made any excuses about this.

Tyler wasnt joking when he stated he was being paid more at UOJ than he would be in the pros.

Only for the coaches, players can still have some.:D

wow if Rees and Carlo had gone to SC, they would never had had a problem!
"pass me a red cup"!

Female entertainment is still allowed - right? I mean what do they have to play for?

If you have to make a rule banning it - then it's obviously been allowed in the past.

He's really backed himself in the corner when he "swore off" alcohol for the rest of
the season. All it's going to take is someone with a smartphone catching him with
a glass of wine at dinner or "unwinding" on Sunset Strip after a big game, and
he's gonna be in deep shit.

I'm guessing Mora has someone perched in a tree outside Sark's house hoping
to catch him relaxing with a beer in front of the TV.

Give the guy a break, it's not like he shot the President or raped a coed, punched a girl in the face or beat up his girlfriend . If all of them get off Scott free why not a coach getting a bit wasted and speaking the truth?

You're a moron on your best day.
