Alabama will beat Texas in rematch. Michigan got really screwed drawing Alabama

I don’t know this year seems very wide open. I do think the winner of bama scUM will win the title

Alabama qb not good enough. Other three are

Alabama really is not that good, and Georgia is not the same team. Bama’s defense is not as good as Ohio State’s; let’s be clear. Michigan will be able to run against Bama’s defense, and they will not be able to make them change what they do. I‘m glad they got in, and when they lose all the SEC bandwagon folks will finally take a seat.

No way could FSU compete with Michigan, Washington, Bama or Texas. FSU would be roadkill to any of those teams without there QB. can you imagine if FSU had to play Iowa last night? Holy shit that would have been boring.
No one has any idea what FSU could have done in the playoff because they were robbed by the good ol’ boys on the committee. FSU would have had a month to prepare their backup quarterback and that should have been enough to get them in.

I will be pulling for a Michigan - Washington final game.

I don't necessarily disagree with any of this.

Michigan has a really good team this year and I expect them to win the game but that doesn't mean Alabama and the SEC are any less deserving of their cache in college football.

Alabama will shut Michigan down. Iowa shut them quite a bit last night. Bama is going to win it all again.

On paper maybe but FSU won all their games even with a 3rd string QB in the ACC championship game who wouldn't be the QB in the playoff
Bama loses at home and then lucks in by a bad auburn team at the end of the season

Maybe, but this Alabama team isn’t as good as some of those other juggernauts. Actually, I I think Georgia would’ve been a tougher matchup for Michigan.

Alabama rising up and beating Georgia is the worst thing that could have happened to the SEC because now it has the lesser SEC team representing it in the college football playoffs.

If Georgia and Alabama play tomorrow, Georgia will be favored and if they played 10 times I think Georgia wins at least seven times on a neutral field, but they didn’t rise up and win that game, so they don’t deserve a shot now.

I feel like Texas is dangerous. They have been red hot since losing to Oklahoma. I'm cheering for Washington, but I doubt they win.

No it was FSU who really got screwed
Yes and no. The committee looked at the depleted FSU QB situation ---- they're down to their 3rd string QB and the kid threw for something like 55 yards yesterday. The committee also noted that it's part of the selection process to look at injuries and as bad as I hate Alabama getting in, FSU is not a top 5 team. Really sad

Their second string QB was going to be the QB.
It is NOT the committees job to look at injuries. They are not Doctors. That's just an out for them to muddy the waters
One thing they didn't look at was head to head, or at least take it serious.
FSU won every game on their schedule.
Bama lost at home.
FSU beat both SEC team they played.
This is dirty pool...no offense meant

I believe Alabama probably is right now the best team in the country and likely to win another NC.

But they simply should not have gotten into the playoffs.

If you truly believe they should...well, then FSU deserved their NC over ND in 1993!

Come on, see through the childish doublespeak that forecasting the future is more important than actual wins on the field.

If you go undefeated in the SEC, defeat 12-0 Georgia to win the SEC title, and finish 11-1, please don't tell me Alabama does not deserve to be in the playoff. They do.

You have to admit FSU is not nearly the same team without there QB. I flipped back and forth between the ACC and B1G games. Both games were hard to watch. FSU. Was lucky to play Louisville and not Iowa. If they played Iowa IMO would not have scored at all.

Hey there are only 4 spots with 5 teams deserving to get in. I think FSU would get crushed by all 3 of those teams.

The mere fact you watched those two shit games you deserve an award.

Not against a Power 5 high pedigree FSU who went undefeated, with decent enough schedule. Full stop. This is the 1st time it's ever happened.

The justifications are laughable. Ohio State won a playoff with a 3rd string QB. SEC teams have been lauded for winning with great defense.

But here we have a committee forecasting the future for what FSU will or will not be...arguing against the ultimate factor: winning.

I don't expect you to change your mind. I chalk such things up to the irrationality of the herd. I can't do anything about it in college football...but I have 1 decisive revenge in this context....which gives me a bit of comfort. Let me explain.

;)

Similarly the irrational herd drives our capital markets. I applaud their forecasts. They pick the deserving stocks! But when they crash entire markets, never mind individual stocks, with their irrational exuberance ...I buy!

The SEC honks and their apologists might get one over on us in football. But at least I have them in the capital markets!

:D

So what? They still played great defense. Who's to say they couldn't win a NC on defense...like great SEC teams have done? Or win with a 3rd string QB like Ohio State?

🤔

But sure, we've arrived at the point where forecasting trumps on the field results. Guess I was wrong about ND being rightful winner of the 1993 NC...FSU was simply more deserving, as the voters had it.

🧐

FSU and Georgia are going to play. If both teams are a full strength who wins? I think Georgia wins easily.

Again, it doesn't matter who is the emergent best team on the last day of the season...the entire season has to be weighed. And the highest weight has ALWAYS been wins, especially if an undefeated Power conference winner vs somebody not this.

No mental gymnastics can cover up that the committee simply preferred an SEC team to be in it over an FSU with superior objective qualification.

Cincinnati got in. TCU got in. Ohio State got in despite injuries.

Brave New World now.

If FSU plays in a different conference do they go 12-0? I just don’t think so. The CFP wants the 4 best teams, not the 4 most deserving teams. I get it I feel really really bad for for FSU, I think the committee was in an impossible situation. I also get it that a lot of people here hate Alabama. And if Florida State hadn’t lost their quarterback, I think they should’ve gotten in ahead of Alabama.

Well, I certainly respect your position on the matter. And maybe you’re right Lord knows I’ve been wrong many many times lol

No offense, but I think you're using the wrong terms and conflating them : it's about the 4 most deserving/best teams vs 4 qualified teams. You're actually arguing that the most qualified team is the most deserving because they happen to be the best right now.

I laid out many times the qualifications determining who should be in the playoffs, citing the guidance. But I will repost something from yesterday to offer more color:

---

Yes, we keep discussing current power vs overall season ranking.

I posted my POWER RANKING vs BY THE RULES RANKING on another thread.

I personally believe Alabama is by now the best...they would KILL FSU, probably rout even Washington.

But you can't let them in based on even what are the general rules.

A Power 5 undefeated conference champion has NEVER been left out...I don't think the differences in schedule merit an exception to this precedent.

I keep saying the NHL seems optimal. The best teams are in the playoffs. 7 games series. Such a system usually produces the truly best team...ensuring the best get in and that 1 bad game can be corrected in a series.

Football however doesn't lend itself to a series...but 12 teams will correct the top 6- 8 selection issue...where probably 1 of the top 4-5 usually win out.

---

I clearly don't hate the Tide. I'm Croatian-American and Nick Saban = Nikloa Šaban. :D I acknowledge Alabama is probably the best in a so called current Power Rating.

But Power Rating is not the season...and FSU got jobbed. Pure and simple.

My friend, I love ND and stand with all of you in football...but the bastards did this to the Irish in 1993. I NEVER forget nor forgive. F*** them. Meaning the NCAA and the ecosystem of voters, media, and pundits.

I still hold a grudge against FSU for reveling and upholding the farce. See how now they're aggrieved? When they're the victim!

At least I acknowledge they are getting jobbed. They spit in my face in 1993. But I come full circle to hating the NCAA the most. This is on them and their corporate con artists.

I keep seeing this take on social media and it’s just wrong.

Cardale Jones played lights out in the B1G title game and OSU won 57-0 over a pretty darn good Wisconsin team. FSU looked like dodo against (5-7) UF, and UL. It’s not even close to the same scenario as the 2014 Buckeyes.

I agree about 1989/1993 debate. Maybe you’re not blaming the NCAA, but the NCAA has nothing to do back then with winning a NC. That’s on the old USAToday/coaches poll and the AP poll.

Alabama IMO is more deserving than FSU. Alabama had the best win this season beating Georgia. Texas won head to head so they deserved to get in. What is FSU best win? LSU?

An unbeaten, Power 5 school that wins its conference title game deserves to be in the Final 4. If a Michigan beating Iowa gets in....FSU deserves to be in as well. Michigan's best win was against a less than stellar OSU. A 1 loss Texas, beating Okie St. for the conference title is equally underwhelming. One could argue for Bama....but, either Bama or Texas should have gotten bumped by FSU. This selection is a farce.
