Facts:

Miami abandoned the Orange Bowl as its home stadium in 2007 for Sun Life Stadium. The Orange Bowl is six miles from the Miami campus, Sun Life Stadium, 20 miles. Miami has not had a ten win season since it left the Orange Bowl.

Al Golden was hired by Miami in December, 2010. In August, 2011, the NCAA announced its investigations into Miami football for violations that occurred between 2002 and 2010.

Al Golden signed with Miami without knowing they were under an NCAA cloud.

What Is Not Known:

Did Miami AD and administration know that they were being scrutinized by the NCAA before they hired Al Golden?

Miami has been somewhere between a total mess and a dumpster fire since the NCAA investigation began. Golden was replaced by Larry Scott who served one year as the interim coach. Scott was followed by Mark Richt and Manny Diaz whose winning percentages were .667 and .640 respectively.

What Al Goden did at Temple was historic. In the 14 years before Golden was hired, Temple went 28 and 130, that’s 2 wins per year. In the two years before Golden took over, Temple went 1 and 22. In Golden’s last two years Temple went 9 and 4 and 8 and 4. Temple’s 4th loss in 2009 was to UCLA in the Eagle Bank Bowl. Al Golden’s future was bright, but Miami took the luster out of it.

Although I am a big Nick Saban fan, I think it is fair to point out that during his amazing run, he has not had to compete with Miami or USC and instead has recruited key players out of their traditional recruiting areas. Saban’s first year at Alabama was 2007. Carroll’s last year at USC was 2008.
