TCU and Michigan were in playoff regardless of winning or losing. Not sure why those championship games were even played.

Always.

My question(s) is does the conference title game become more important or less in 24? Do they even play them moving forward?

I would say conference championships go away starting in 2024 with expanded playoffs. No need to play
Whenever $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
is involved, there is a need.

So Kansas state is the conference champion. Yippee !!! But wait , TCU can be national champion. Even though it’s about $$$$. Which it is. The game was pointless as far as the playoff is concerned

Sure, even though the teams and fans had spent thousands of dollars to participate in and watch the games, they should have been canceled. If the schools and fans lost money, that's just too bad.
Really????

No. Not if you are KS. They have zero chance to make playoffs. But they can tell their kids they are conference champs and beat TCU — the team that went to nattys and — what if tcu winsvit all? Then KS beat the natty champs. That’s awesome

It’s called pride. Both teams should strive for it. Doing your best. Always

Kansas St, UNC, LSU, UCF & Utah (not sure about Purdue) would have made the playoff with wins in the 12 team playoff coming in '24.

conference championship games probably should be ‘ignored’ for playoff consideration. But, with the new setup it is probably a moot point.

But wait….how about all those talking heads and posters saying ND needs to be in a conference ?!

UNC and LSU doubtful with 4 losses; 3 losses if conference championships go away. UNC has not been ranked in top 12 by playoff committee for at least last 2 rankings.

Most of the college teams have no chance of winning the national championship before the first snap of the season. Maybe they should cancel their regular season games as well.

Mostly. Bama (for some reason) was still live for the playoff after SC lost on Friday.
TCU didn't know that they had a safety cushion. A blowout loss likely means they did not get in.
The BUG10 does not get two teams in the playoff if Michigan lost to Purdidn't. So the Wolverines were really trying to win one for the Buckeyes.

For "some" reason? Because they lost both games to highly ranked teams on the last plays of the game. Not saying I agree or disagree that they should have gotten in, but most certainly understand the discussion. Not a soul on this board would take TCU over Alabama if they faced off.

Indeed. But the committee just couldn't do it. It would be too blatant. W/L is really all that's ever mattered. And that's pretty much the singular criteria. And they've shafted TCU once before. So they just had to swallow this one.

But TCU's pretty good. They're totally capable of giving Michigan a game. And let's not forget, even as you say both of Bama's losses were literally last play of the game against good teams, Bama had other games they nearly lost, vs A&M, Texas and Ole Miss and I think it's probably correct to say, just as an opinion, that they weren't quite as good this year. Irrespective of their record.

Yeah but as Sassy said, Bama needed lot's of help to beat Texas, which TCU didn't get. I still don't understand why 10-2 Bama is ranked above 10-2 Tennessee
