i always like to give myself the next day to ccol down before posting, so here are my opinions on the game.
Offense
1. Offense was prepared and came to play. Only criticism was swapping Zaire with Kizer after the first series. You could see the offense was not the same with Zaire at QB.
2. After Hunter went out i cannot recall any more passes that were complete or where we went to the WR's after that.
3. The inside zone read was not there most of the night, but kept trying to run it especially in OT on 2nd and 5. That hurt
4. OL was getting a good push on the left side and pass blocking was above average.
Play calling
Overall the play calling was good, but Kelly always seems to choke in critcial situations such as the last drive in the 4th quarter and the second overtime. Had a little over 3 minutes and he calls conservative plays when he could of out the game away.
Defense
1. Don't know where the start except that BVG is not the man for this team. i will say the secondary played alot better after inserting the freshman.
2. Playing a 3 man front against a team that has 2 big running backs and letting them get a full head of steam was mind blowing to me.
3. In the 2nd half every time Swoops came in it was up the middle QB keeper and we did not adjust even in OT on tyhe winning drive same play every time.
4. Players i thought played well on defense. Rochelle and James Onwualu
Special Teams
Overall i thought the special teams did a great job. They did not lose the game and actually put the team in a position to win the game.
1. CJ Sanders is a great puter returner
2. Yoon did a great job og kicking and kickoffs
3. Punting was very good as well except for one punt.
To sum up the entire game is that the offense and special teams put the team in a position to win. The defense did absolutely nothing to win this game. i truly believe a high school defensive coordinator running a vanilla defense with man coverage with 2 deep safeties would have won this game easily. i will guarantee that Texas does not end with a winning record this year.
