If you watched this team at all, for 5 minutes, you knew they didn't have the fire power or horses to be great. A Sweet 16 birth would have been the pinnacle unless they drew a super favorable draw. Lacked a second option/scorer and athleticism across the board. Good season, this is where I had them falling in my bracket.
Yikes. First we get beat fairly handily, then FSU gets dismantled...now Florida waxing the floor with Virginia.
Perhaps we were a bit overrated this year?

Only 2 ACC teams left in the tourney. Looks like the ACC was over rated this year. Either that, or they wore themselves out beating each other up during the season and ACC tourney.
Every team except 1 will lose their last game this year ... I just see things before others.Louisville has lost.
I said ND wasn't as good as their record indicated multiple times this season.
But I am clueless ?
No, I just see things before others.
It's a pretty good indicator though. When there are only intramural matchups, it can be difficult to judge, especially when there is quite a bit of parity and teams are just beating each other up. I think cross-conference matchups are a better measuring stick of the quality of teams, although there are several factors to consider such as how favorable a matchup is (both personnel and style). There is also a chance factor that can muddy the waters because it's a relatively small sample size. The tournament is such a random event that I think it's somewhat silly to make broad statements about the power or strength of a conference based on how they performed during the tournament, as opposed to a larger sample size.

That being said....
When teams aren't just losing but getting blown out...then that is a pretty big revelation that the conference did not live up to it's elite reputation. It sort of explains how a rather ordinary ND team could finish so well in the final conference standings.
I wouldn't argue against any of those points. The beauty of the tourney (and sports in general) is that the best team doesn't always win the championship. It would be extremely boring if the favored team won every time.Of course inter-conference matchups mean a lot, but the tournament is just a small snapshot of that.
The NCAA Tournament doesn't necessarily tell us the "best" team of the year, or the "best" four teams of the year, or the "best" eight teams of the year.
This is very well said ... ACC may have more depth and in the end may also produce the champion, but it's fair to say the conference as a whole has not performed in the tournament that ultimately defines every teams season.I wouldn't argue against any of those points. I suppose we can speculate what would happen if we rewound the tape and allowed the tourney to play out again. Maybe the ACC would dominate. I'm just going to go based on what is actual evidence though, and it seems to suggest that the ACC was probably overrated this season.
The fact that teams were blown out (3 losses by 20+) plus the fact that even some of the victories were unimpressive squeakers (Virginia vs UNC-Wilimington, ND vs Princeton, FSU vs Florida Gulf Coast) definitely qualifies as a big disappointment for the ACC and the fans of the teams therein.
This is not to suggest Duke or UNC can't win it all and make us forget a lot about these poor performances.
Given that many of the losses, as you described, were blowouts or decisive victories suggests that these games weren't cases of the best team having a subpar outing.I wouldn't argue against any of those points. Yup, and UNC basically won by the skin of their teeth. Hard to believe there was such a poor showing this year from the conference.Down goes Dook.
Only (?) ACC team still in the running is UNC.
Louisville the latest albatross
We'll know for sure tomorrow. The true heavy weights of the ACC are in action.
depends on how you define conference success ... if ACC goes from 8 in the field of 64 to 2 in the field of 16 to 2 in the final four is that a good showing? Or is that just Duke UNC post season consistency?
Overhyped ACC again!
Again? Last year the ACC did really well in the tourney. They dominated other than failing to win the title.
But I think they were a little overrated this year. This year the ACC was the best in football though.
The B1G, SEC and PAC 12 have surprisingly done the best this year so far, with 3 Sweet 16 teams each.
Kentucky then everybody else. Boring!ACC hoops is much like SEC football. Great conference but always overrated.
