just saw this pic of some former irish players standing posing in the stadium with the site of the future jumbotron behind them. I figured it would be small when I heard the board voted to let our AD put one in but it looks like it is going to be pretty massive

Hard to tell exactly how much of that space it will use. I checked the measurements in comparison to some other new boards and it is no where near as large as some of them...but still obviously larger than what ND has now!

Just imagine how big the helmet she'll game will be on that!

Along with the 1000000000000 ads every game

:)

yes our irish officials have said there will be no ads just like there are no ads on the ones at the ice arena and basketball arena

I bet the ads will all be ND or charity related. I doubt you guys will go all Premier League.

Just makes me laugh at the old heads on here complaining about not wanting the technology because it will take away their attention with the ads and such. As if a grown man can't figure out how to pay attention to the game instead of the screen

My guess is that younger fans dickering with cell phones while the game is being played really steams their corn.

nah...

I am in an 'adult' community and the ole farts are txt'n and yapping 24/7 (naps excluded)

And remember as recently as a couple of years ago people on this message board were saying............No....never! ND will never have a JUMBOTRON! Me-O-my, how things do change!

And what are we hearing now..........No.....never! ND will never join a conference.

As they say, never say never.

and that new turf! on the jumbo tron!

The End is Near!

And recruiting young kids! And making changes to the uniforms! And the helmets! And coaches attending ACC meetings, and a new type of instant replay! OMG, will it ever end???

Change is the only constant. Change is good.

I am 63 and I have no problem with the jumbo and I don't have a problem with the students using their cell phones at the game. It doesn't affect my game experience one tiny bit. I would rather have them texting at the game than when they are behind the wheel. I don't know any old timers who are having a problem with the new and improved stadium. It comes to my attention that the younger crowd believe they invented change which is ironic since many of them still live at mom and pop's place. How's that for a generalization? Bring on the turf. Bring on the additions. Bring on the Jumbo. Bring on the odd unies. We can handle it. The greatest generation have seen and been through worse.

All right Toby...........sounds like you're ready to join a conference and play the 13th game?

Well, if they join a conference then they join a conference. I have no control over anything that goes on at that university. I once had a suggestion for the shuttle buses that carries fans from the White Field to the campus and it was met with a hardy "We'll get back to you". Predictably, they never did. I'm not even sure who "they" is.

Making changes to the uniform/helmets? You have no clue, do you? The green jerseys go back to Rockne, there were royal blue jerseys during Faust's tenure and shamrocks on the helmets in 1959.

.......and ND has had early enrollment for football players for a decade.

Not to mention the switch from Cartier Field to the present location of the stadium 88 years ago. Change didn't just start within the last 10 years at ND.

Hi Alice,

Not to quibble but check these out: (What do you think of the second one down?)

Hi again Alice,

Please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't recruiting the really young ones (like 15-year-olds) a relatively new thing at ND?

I only ask because some time back USC had a committment from a really young one and posters here said ND would NEVER do that. And again I believe that changed but I'm not positive.

Yes, you're quibbling! I have no problem with the alternative uni/helmet for the Shamrock Series, after all, each coach tinkers with the uni during his tenure, so not a big deal. There are some, I'm sure that don't like the Shamrock unis, but that happens, kinda like the Nole outcry at the new FSU logo a season or two ago.

ND has a junior day, do you really think ND had no clue about these kids during their sophomore year?

What the deal with you starting an Irish thread on the Long Horn board? ~shakes head~

I thought some of those jerseys/helmet designs were kind of wild. I imagine that is Under Armour's attempt to sell more merchandise especially to younger kids. Nike started all this with Oregon and now all the schools are constantly changing unis. Bottom line: $$$

Vegas had ND -10 over UT. I asked UT posters what they thought. The majority thought ND would win and I posted that sentiment on this board. UT still has not named a starting QB out of about 3 or so choices.

I think the new jumbo replay board will be great. It is like replacing an old 27" TV with a 60" HD screen. Some people freak out that such a large TV will "dominate the room". But a large screen usually is a huge improvement, whether you are talking about a family room or a stadium.

Don't want to doubt when Crist got married (cuz I don't know),
but the steel structure on the south end of the stadium has only been erected
in the last couple months. So how can this photo be from last year??

You are right. Could have been 2 years now. I have a friend that was in the wedding ( I wasn't there) and remember him coming in town for it. Just didn't think it had been that long ago. You very well could be correct though

The wedding was May 21st of this year, as in 12 days ago.

Good lord, had my facts all messed up on this. Here was the picture I was thinking of, from the wedding I was thinking of. Which was Braxton's wedding in 2015.

Honest mistake, and uncanny resemblance in photos.

That's a decent size, folks.

PSU's is 152'x37'.
Auburn's is massive! 190'x57'

then why not have gone for the biggest - the best ?

If you are gonna do it , then really do it!

Hopefully it will make up for size with state of the art resolution!
