A dominating OL?????????

I think we've all been waiting. One thing is for sure, Hiestand can recruit and his players love him. The one on-field product just isn't there.

Guys we lost three last year! Three blue chippers, two were starting in the NFL. Takes time... Bring everyone back and we will dominate for years.

3 new starters last year to go with McGlinchey and Nelson. They have had a year of chemistry now.

Hoge, Kramer, Bivin, and Liam ready to compete to replace them outright or because of injury.

McGlinchey and Nelson are captains now to work with their guys in the off season

Quinn, an ex ol coach and HC is with the S & C program so he can work with them.

No guarantees but that is a pretty good scenario in place for a step forward by our OL.

Is Nelson back for sure?

So with all that talent why couldn't Kelly win a big game in 2015? Because he's a lousy coach.

Yes we didn't play well enough to win enough games. You're not going anywhere when the majority of your defense is comprised of freshman. In addition it's a young team overall. The team should be a lot better this year and if not Kelly is most likely gone.

I want the offensive line to prove it on the field. You can't run the ball consistently if the o line isn't creating holes for the backs. Too often they looked like the Pillsbury Dough Boys last year. Good lord, all those false starts--what was with that HH?

Kelly's offense is NOT power oriented. Plain and simple. Watch OSU, Alabama, even Oregon (under Chip Kelly) -- theirs is a power spread that uses the run to set up the pass. Kelly is opposite -- he throws the ball around to set up the run later.

Until Kelly emphasizes the run (i.e. -- power), you will never see it at ND while Kelly is here. Thus -- the reason why he spreads the offense out on the goal line and cannot get a 3rd / 4th and one against an overmatched Navy team.

I can't tell if it was a young team. There were a lot of first time starters like Trumbetti, Tillery, Morgan, Studstill and boundary CB but many had prior experience, even part time starting experience. Some were upperclassmen.

But we could return 11 players on offense that started last year. Hunter and Kizer likely leave but KS is ready to start. If Kizer leaves, Wimbush might be the only new starter.

On defense we have returning players who started games at all the positions except Sam, SDE and field corner. We even have returning experience at Dime and Nickel.

That many returning starters does suggest we were a little on the young side.

Sorry......I will wait to see HH & his latest stars JUST DO IT!!!!!
We were a pre season top 10 with projected All Americans anchoring the o line. We got destroyed and established a new level of ND football incompetence. Vacating 21 wins/2 seasons probably makes this the worst football season in ND history. Pathetic....

I agree with Kelso. We don't have a run first or run for tough yards identity. Our play calling is more finesse than power, and our line takes on that identity. There's no question we have the talent to run the ball with power, but strength and conditioning and weight and focus of practices all have to align with this. My sense is we bulk our guys up for the primary purpose of pass protection, and we lose quickness off the ball and our pulling is damn near non existent. To make matters worse, our behemoths then have trouble pass blocking strong quick guys that are forty pounds lighter.
