#8 Notre Dame at home vs. #14 Georgia Tech and the Vegas odds.....

Look at it this way. The Irish were unimpressive Saturday, and now are playing a legit top 15 team with a Quarterback that's getting his first start. The casual fan is probably thinking the Irish are in big trouble. The pros however I suspect will be all over the Irish on that line.

but overall I think the line is pretty respectable

Look at it as a money making opportunity.

On what basis is Vegas favoring GT by 2? Go figure.........
I have it on "truthful" authority that ND will be favored in every game. More talent and better coaching than every team they play.. Vegas is just a ND hater.

Wouldn't you prefer that?

Since you are a FSU fan. Doesn't it make the ACC look better to be favored?

It's more of an inter-league battle with GT playing 8 ACC teams while ND plays 6 ACC teams.

Unfortunately somebody has to lose.

They're favored because ND barely escaped vs. an average to sub-average team, lost their starting QB, and has had a lot of trouble defending the option. I would take GT and give the points all day.

I'll be very happy if ND wins Saturday.

But I'm afraid we're in for a long sad Saturday. If you think last year's USC game was bad, I'm afraid this year's GT game could be worse.

VanGorder and Kelly have yet to show me that they understand how to defense the option, so GT possibly will just keep scoring. And since ND will have to try to keep up with that, Kelly will abandon the run and make our offense be one dimensional by passing on every play … this won't work with a first time starter at QB.

Irish Herb, you may be right, but, I do know our team has solid talent at a lot of positions and if we get "A" effort from those solid positions and DK can play minimal error free football we will have a great chance to win.

The game is in the house that Rock built. The lads of ND will be ready and the team will rally around DK.

Let's face it, this is a rare situation to see a top 10 team as a home underdog to a lesser ranked team. That is reason for referring to it as the "elephant in the living room" that only a few are talking about. It brings about many questions that are all worthy of discussion........just good football talk.

* Is GT a "world beater"? Depends on what you mean doesn't it? World beater defense.........probably not. World beater offense? From the standpoint of running the triple option GT is the consummate best there is in the nation. Their track record speaks to that.

* So, what are the keys to defending and attacking GT's triple option? How did other teams that beat GT do it?

* What are the specific advantages that ND has and how does playing Navy (coach Paul Johnson's former team) help..........again, specifically.

* Discipline-- We hear that a lot but what are we really talking about...........where does the D and D line focus, how are things different for the D line, what is it the linebackers have to look for and key on?

* Triple option......as in 3 different possibilities every down. OK, so let's say the D is bottling up the middle..........let's not forget about the QB scramble and pitch and their passing game. They may not pass much but when they do it can make all the difference between 3 and out and a big gain. So, what are the other things a team has to do to guard against the other two parts of the triple option.

* Now..........GT is know for being a ground pounding "clock eater". With that in mind, what would be the best offensive strategy to use against them? Sure you want to score early and often but is there a preferred way to go about it as compared to playing a more traditional team? Or, does that even matter?

Lots to talk about and lots to learn for ND fans and fans of any of GT's opponents.

You needed to start a new thread to talk about the same elephant in the room you're other thread talked about? Also... all this board has done for months when it comes to GT is talk about their offense, not sure how it is the elephant in the room "no one wants to talk about".

GT looks more like a quadruple option team than a triple option … (1) fullback up the middle; (2) pitch to a halfback; (3) QB keeper; (4) pass.

How to defend this, easier said than done, is to (1) shadow the FB and hit him at point of handoff on every play; (2) shadow the QB and hit him on every play; (3) discipline on the front 7, don't let the QB cut in and be sure to have enough guys on both ends to cover the pitch man; (4) don't let the receivers get loose.

Hard to do, but can be done. GT may be harder because of their ability to pass too.

Just hope ND wins. Like I said earlier, I'll be real happy with a win, but …

Just go to the thread "No flaming please........just here to talk about GT" and read what the GT fan had to say. Really good.......and that's the sort of discussion I was looking for.

...........Herb,

Great thoughts and comments! Thanks, that's something ND fans and GT's opponents fans can mull over.

that is absurd. odds makers are in the business of making money. they have no personal grudge against nd. gt is favored because you have a young unproven qb. that is all.

Here's a hint. On Saturday morning we were 12 to 1 odds to win the national championship. Sunday morning we were 40 to 1. Something happened on Saturday.
