Rush Att vs. Pass Att

Really like this stat above all others. 422 rush yds is a great start no matter how you slice it. Temple loaded the box DARING us to run. I may be wrong but it seemed we ran right a lot more. Take what they give you I guess.

6 for 6

Red zone TDs. My 2nd favorite stat.

I see a lot of good things today. By no means close to perfect, but big strides in the right direction. Temple is not a terrible team. Maybe not another 10 win conference champ, but no cupcake.

The Irish have alot to improve ! And that is the great part !! They have a very high ceiling ! The four Horseman ! Adams ! Jones ! Williams ! Wimbush !

Brandon made a few sketchy throws today. (B- as a passer, A as a runner.) As you say Bodi we're a work in progress -- did you guys think Smith was open deep on the int to EQ?

Georgia has a really good defense. We are going to have to be much, much better on O.

Agree,
Any win is a good start ! Next week will be a real test, so I'll take it game by game.
Wimbush was very impressive and seems to have all the tools and good instincts as well, even though
He threw that one pass as he was being tackled right into the hands of a defender who dripped the ball.
But for his first start,The kid looked great !

Stu, I think you are looking at the Irish offense through the eyes of someone who has ssen the 2015 Irish offense with Kizer to Fuller and CJ Procise. I believe the Irish offense is much more dangerous than the 2015 O because of Power foottball--422 yards rushing behind one of the best OlINES IN FOOTBALL---THE OFFENSE was perfect in short yardage and redzone offenes--- There weren't many bombs to Fuller--but a great running game like the one we saw today wears the other team out and helps our defense.-- The passing will get better but running teams win championships more than passing teams, And how bout that using a tightend as a full back on one of the redzone touchdown runs? Stanfordesque.

I think we saw a very vanilla offense after we jumped out to a quick two score lead. Canteen and Smith were unremarkable, and don't know how much is on them versus play calling. Anxious to see more of Claypool, and anxious to see Mack play with the rust off after what I thought was a pretty mediocre game by him, both catching and blocking. But hard to bitch about lack of a homerun passing game when you rush for over 400 yards, and the one pass to St Brown was six inches too long on what otherwise would have been a long TD pass and catch. Thought it was a damn good overall offensive effort for the first game of the season, and loved the running game.

i see what you mean about Tommy Kraemer needing work but hopefully him and Hainsey get better and if anyone can it is those two hard working studs.

And one more thing to add. As I always here you make the most improvement from your first to second game. I believe the Irish are going to open a big can of Woopass on the Dawgs, Home cooking and running it down Georgias throats !

Really surprised they each had about forty plays. Can't believe they'll alternate like this all season. They damn well better improve weekly or Wimbush is going to get hurt or make too many hurried throws that result in mistakes. I expect they will, and I expect one will emerge as the clear starter. Otherwise, they're going to have to reconsider moving Bars back to tackle and Kraemer to guard.

I agree that most teams show measurable improvement from the first to the second game. Practice is great, but can't compare to real game experience. When you consider this was the first college game either has played the position, I think we'll see meaningful improvement from both next week, but they do have a long ways to go.

Talking about a redshirt freshman and true freshman; most programs would love to have that problem

Power rushing with a lot of multiple TE sets and 7 receptions spread out between 3 TE's limits the opportunity for some of the WR's compared to last season. I think about 1/3 or more of the throws were targeted to the TE's.

And Wimbush still hit eight different guys for receptions, with only one coming out of the backfield. Good job of spreading the ball around for a first time starter.

I thought Smith should have been the target. New QB focuses on his favorite target until he develops chemistry with other receivers. Right now, EQ is the tRget and we have to dind more. 8 or so receivers caught the ball. The bck weren't very effective. Mack wasn't effective. Smith is my choice and we really miss Stepherson.

Need some Claypool, Boykin, and McKinley to take advantage of the vaccum right now. It won't work though if Wimbush doesn't throw to them and complete more than 60%.

Def looked like Smith was open but always hard to tell if the safety was beat or if he was coming off Smith to where the ball was thrown.

As great as our Oline was, it felt like Brandon was under a lot of pressure throughout when passing. Some of that was the blitzing and some was his being young/inexperienced and reacting early. It also felt like we could've thrown down field more often to open things up, but Temple's secondary is solid. Our Dline had their moments, both positive and negative. And lastly our secondary simply has to continue to have their confidence grow.

All in all, a great win and first game, and I loved how BK had them ready to finish strong. Much different feel to the end of the game.

Georgia is no joke obviously. They have some big men on the line and their D has some real athletes. Will be a close game either way. I am confident our Irish will be ready.

Frankly, I think most teams would rather have a junior or red shirt sophomore starting on their OL. Bodi and I have a long running conversation about this position. I love Kraemer and think he will be one of our great OL by the time he leaves; but I happen to think he is not a natural tackle and is slow footed for what the position requires, and I think he will be our starting guard next season. This year, HH must feel he and true freshman Hainsey are our best options, but that doesn't change the fact that we are vulnerable to a speed rush at this position, until they become better. Not criticizing, just expressing an opinion as to the only real weakness of a really outstanding offensive line.
