Bad football, very poor effort. This team looks flat and uninspired. Will be very lucky to get this one
Having a wild card is always goodBut...when you have the 2nd best dual threat QB next to LJ. You always have an X Factor.
People who post early often look like idiots.Another example.Bad football, very poor effort. This team looks flat and uninspired. Will be very lucky to get this one

Expecting perfection is silly. It's football ,things happen. A little credit to the opposition is not a sin.
The point is mistakes do happen because humans are involved. Numerous punts blocked in big games yesterday. If you feel the need to blame someone blame tranquil. He s in charge out there on the punt. He should have recognized the alignment and either changed the protection or call a time out.Going through a season without getting a punt blocked is not perfection its a common standard. Overloading a one side of the punt protection is a common ploy on punt block and should be handled 100% of the time at that level.
And I guarantee BK & BP are not saying "oh well things happen, NC State made a good play boys". Especially since this same NC State BEAT ND with blocked punt last year.
The blocked punt comment is not the culprit here. Special Teams is. Don't kill the messenger. All this stuff has to be "cleaned up" by play-off time because the really really good teams will make you pay. BK knows that this can't be ignored.
FI - While I respect your posts, I have to disagree with you here.Right Tranquill should of recognized 5 to one side but did not, so the ND punter standing on his goal line got smoked. Not only did the punt get blocked and ND got in an 0-7 hole, the punter could of easily gotten hurt.
My point was spot on ND was not sharp mentally or physically at the outset, because if you are sharp you make the adjustment or call timeout. And as BK said in his 30 years experience when a team gets a punt blocked it "normally" goes into a tail spin, Dick Vermeil said the same thing. Heck ND lost to this same school on a blocked punt last year.
But on the mighty ND Forum if you make that observation you are labeled an "idiot" by a guy who knows absolutely nothing about football. I will stick with BK and Dick Vermeil and keep posting whenever I feel, if that offends dont read it.

You originally said we would be very lucky to get this one. The game was just beginning and I think in games such as this teams tend to feel one another out at the start. Players as well as coaches make adjustments to whatever happens at the outset. I rarely worry about the first quarter. What happens over the next three really determines the outcome.
As we witnessed, our boys wore them down and took it to their opponent again.
Yeah, special teams have been truly special. Most of the time on kickoffs, it seems like we are letting our opponents start outside their own 30, while we are starting inside our 20. Same with punts. We are getting pinned down while opponents are coming close to breaking returns.
Think how good we'd be if we reversed that.
Really? I might be wrong but overall I’m happy with Kick Off coverage and ecstatic with Punt coverage.
The return teams are below average.
Yoon has been good. The punter (who’s damn name escapes me even after 3 years of being a starter) has been good.
C+ ranking for the Special Teams. Not great, barely good but not bad.
Polian is known as a great recruiter but so so as a position coach. Our punt coverage has been better than our kickoff coverage, but still not great.
I'd give special teams a C or C-.
Net punting is a horrible stat.108th KO return coverage, 88th punt return coverage, 71th net punting, 100th punt returns, and 57th KO returns. The one constant on Special teams have been the trio of long snapper, holder, and kicker (John Shannon, MVG, and Justin).
The actual punt may be high and deep but the return, if it's a good one, takes away from the distance of the kick. I think that's how it works. Am I wrong on that?Net punting is a horrible stat.
You ' re not wrong but pooch punts are very common and severely impact the statistic as do touchbacks. A guy hits a 60 yarder and it goes in the end zone and it's only a net 40.The actual punt may be high and deep but the return, if it's a good one, takes away from the distance of the kick. I think that's how it works. Am I wrong on that?
You weren't wrong you are a dope. Anyone that posts such after 1 series in a game is an idiot. At least you are consistent.Oh my the internet tough guy with his ad hominem BS strikes again. I admitted my initial reaction was wrong, now you admit you are a jerk off...deal?
I guess the issue is that Polian hasn't improved his ST game since he was here last time as St coordinator. Almost no punt return game, poor KO coverage and a kick-off returner who tip-toes from the 5 to the 21 yd line. Generally poor. He is a super good recruiter so they have to put him somewhere.Really? I might be wrong but overall I’m happy with Kick Off coverage and ecstatic with Punt coverage.

I agree the one weakness Kelly has are weak special teams . We are always the weak team in that area .The blocked punt comment is not the culprit here. Special Teams is. Don't kill the messenger.
