I knew we were really bad at rushing the passer this year. But our DLine had 3 sacks the entire season, we had 14 as a team total.

3 sacks from the Dline, and we weren't in a 3-4 that much.

There were 313 pass attempts vs ND this year, so once ever 104 pass attempts our Dline sacked the QB. My god.... Tillery, Trumbetti, Cage all had none.

That's crappy coaching and crappy talent. Good Coaching would turn bad players into better pass rushers than we had, and talent would have overcome crappy coaching to do better.

Unreal

Now -- out of those 313 pass attempts -- how many were quick 3-step drops, swing passes to the flat, quick "flips" to a WR coming across the formation? These are extremely hard to get to the QB on these plays.

You are making an assumption that all are drop-back pass attempts -- need to analyze this a little better.

Now that said -- yea, 3 sacks is pretty lame from a D-Line perspective.

yeah thats why there was turnover on the Defensive staff. Couldn't maintain the status quo there.

Kelso, our defense didn't force any offense to change to quick passes of the sort you mention. Duke did an incredible job with quick releases, which was their normal offense, and I don't rscall any other team feeling the need to revert to this due to pass rush pressure from us. I don't think a lot of analysis is necessary to understand these stats show a pathetic level of production. It is worth noting that BVG's scheme was for linemen to hold their space as opposed to attacking, and I think all fourteen team sacks were achieved after his firing. Expect we'll see at least twice this many next season under Elko.

That should be a per game stat. Pathetically sad. Shows the lack of S&C. We have plenty of talent. Many teams do better with much less. It's all coaching. 100%, no question. Kelly blaming players for lack of production shows how terrible a coach he is. He should go coach a middle school team.

Agree -- ND did not force anyone to revert to a change of quick releases -- like Duke, it could have been a part of their normal offense (Syracuse, VA Tech to name a few).

Just mainly a discussion point.

I believe you are right on the sacks came after BVG left. Still even after that our middle LB led the team in sacks. I'm just floored.

I believe Kelly already addressed this when he said 7 looooooooooooooong years ago... "get used to it"

Its bad. I think Bama had 50 sacks 2 years in a row. Its not like we don't have bodies. We must have 14 DLmen but we are not developing them.
