Notre Dame's big recruiting weekend last Saturday against USC was headlined by Nebraska 2024 TE commit Carter Nelson and a ton of 2025 targets but the Irish also hosted a few 2026 prospects that they wanted to get on campus, measure and evaluate in person.

One of those prospects was 2026 DE Max Meier, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound defensive end recruit out of Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola. He plans to camp at Notre Dame next summer. Meier has experience playing defensive end, tight end and offensive tackle. Irish offensive line coach Joe Rudolph follows him on X (formerly Twitter).

I spoke with Meier to learn about his trip, what he knows about Notre Dame and what impression the visit left on him.

On his visit:

"When I came, I was shocked because Rudy really kind of got it right," Meier told Inside ND Sports. "The spirit was beyond what I had ever seen. The football tradition and all that ... the Midnight Drum Circle I got see and it's just beyond like any other college I'd visited ot seen in the football kind of aspect."

On his takeaways from the defense:

"There's no really weak link," Meier said. "Those linebackers and everything was just insane. Defense wins championships and honestly, we kind of got to see that. They absolutely crushed it, especially against a team like USC which has Caleb Williams. I've been to probably 10 USC games and I've never seen Caleb Williams get sacked."

On how he feels after the visit:

"If Notre Dame is following me and has eyes on me, I really gotta act like I'm gonna be a Notre Dame player one day," Meier said. "I gotta start eating like a Notre Dame player, training like one, acting like one, even if I don't end up playing there, it's still kind of a boost of confidence and gives me motivation to be the best football player I can be."

According to Rivals, Meier isn't currently rated or ranked. He doesn't report any offers at this time. His father, Timothy Meier, played defensive end at Dartmouth.
