I just spoke with Notre Dame 2024 RB target Kedren Young. He's one of five uncommitted running backs Inside ND Sports has listed on The Heat Index. The Irish are searching for a second running back to join four-star all-purpose back Aneyas Williams in their 2024 recruiting class.

Young has his official visit to Notre Dame this weekend, starting Friday and running through Sunday.

The four-star running back attends Lufkin (Tex.) High and has been in contact with running backs coach Deland McCullough since landing an offer from the Irish in January. Young said he appreciates every conversation with McCullough because it's steered toward family and success beyond football. He said it also doesn't hurt that McCullough has NFL coaching experience.

"That's very tight and it's what stuck out to me," Young said. "He already has experience, not even in college but in the NFL, the biggest stage. If he's been a coach in the NFL and won a championship at his position, man ... I just imagine what all he knows about the game."

Young told me academics, offensive scheme and relationships are his three biggest priorities.

After holding initial conversations with McCullough and offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Gerad Parker, Young believes his skills fit Notre Dame's scheme and he'll have plenty of opportunities running the ball and contributing as a pass-catcher with the Irish.

He's also eager to meet head coach Marcus Freeman for the first time.

"Relationships are a big thing," Young said. "Being a player's coach is really going to stick out to any player, honestly. It's going to be exciting to see how he is in person. Not even just football, but outside of football."

Young is ranked as the No. 16 running back in the 2024 class. The 5-foot-11, 210-pound recruit rushed for 1,666 yards and 19 touchdowns last season.

He holds 26 total offers and has official visits set for Texas Tech June 9-11 and Texas A&M June 16-18 following his trip to Notre Dame.
