Hey guys,

This is my first post. After being a long time ND fan, I finally made the trip from Los Angeles to Indiana to see ND take on Wake Forest a few weeks ago. I even proposed to my fiance there. So it was a very special weekend for me.

I have to say I chose to join this board as you guys seem much more mature and level headed than the other very active ND forum (I'll leave the name out).

So, I'll call them the big three (Fuller, Kizer, and now..Adams)..How many starters do we have returning to block for them?

Thanks for welcoming me.

Welcome....hopefully they will be blocking for Folston and CJ too. As to who will be doing the blocking....I'll defer to the experts on that one.

As far as starters returning, we get LG Nelson, RG Elmer and RT McGlinchey back. We lose LT Stanley and C Martin. All the important (top 3) tight ends are back. If you went by the depth chart Hunter Bivin would take over Stanley's spot and Sam Mustipher would take Martin's. But O-line is always subject to re-shuffling, as many coaches just want the best five guys out there, and then you figure out who plays where.

Mustipher or Hoge at C. Hard to think Bars doesn't land somewhere in the rotation. Him or Biven at LT

Okay, O line importance can't be underestimated. Thanks for the info, three guys on the line returning is very possitive.

On a totally opposite note, I played high school ball at the same school CJ Sanders played (Notre Dame High School) though 10 years earlier. Do yourself a favor and youtube his senior year highlights. Weaving in and out of traffic om punts and kick returns for TDs is what he did all year. It is awesome seeing him do the same thing at the next level.

my guess is from L to R......... Bars, Nelson, Mustipher, Elmer, McGlinchey. IT wouldn't shock me if Hoge is starting at Center either.

Welcome! I just got one question: when's the bachelor party!?! Lol. Congrats!

Agreed this is is most likely the O-Linr starting lineup. That is one big and talented group. Also, plenty of talented and hungry guys behind them, should Kelly need them.

I'll also defer to the experts of the board but wanted to say that the OLine is loaded for years to come. It seems ND has 4 stars redshirting on the line every year.

And welcome to the board. You made a good choice. Congrats on the nuptials.

I would guess that key subs will be Mustipher/Hoge at center, Montelus /McGovern at right guardMcgovern orHoge at left guard Bivin/McGovern at right tackle. As you can tell I think that McGovern and Hoge have shown great progress and Hoge was cross training at guard and made the B.C, trip as a reserve.. All subject to injury and someone exploding overnight![smile] the Joker in the deck may be Tillery but that chance is extremely remote.

It's the one position where we seem to have no problem selling what ND has to offer. No coincidence that next to QB, Oline is generally the most intelligent position group on the field.

Having had Martin and now Stanley is gonna continue to make it easy to recruit there as well.

I would say that without exception the O line is THE most intelligent , courageous, cultured, accomplished , tall , good looking, numerous, and mature position group on the entire offense. any guesses as to where I played? Smile!

Haha yea I have seen them. At the end of the day Im a football fan and die hard ND. Life is to short for internet fights.

If I'm starting a team from scratch and I could choose one position group to be excellent, I'd pick the O line every time. Gives inexperienced QBs time and space to make throws, turns average backs into stars (Lee Becton anyone?), and even keeps the D off the field and rested.

our irish are recruiting so well at the o-line position that they are wanting a kid named matthew gutwalk from Dublin california to be a preferred walkon even though he has multiple offers from west coast schools including Oregon. California qb and irish verbal ian books is recruiting him to come to south bend from what I read

Hoge might win the center position. I hear he is an absolute beast.

it will be interesting to see if mcglinchey switches sides. consistency from elmer would be great. the loss of martin is minimal. losing a talent like stanley always hurts. a healthy nelson can be a beast.

Nelson may be scary good if he continues the normal development curve for young linemen. I see Bars as a better fit at left tackle although Kelly doesn't seem to place a lot of credence in the blind side tackle bromide when using the shotgun formation. I think he sees it more as an under center issue. McGlinchey is still learning how to play right tackle and could aid in the continuity of the right side if he stays there. Just an opinion.
