And my Crystal Balls pick Sam Hartman to lead the Irish to their first National Championship since 88 and he will be ND's first Heisman trophy winner since Tim Brown in 87 !

Pete Thamel from ESPN was reported as noting this: Thamel noted he is "seeking a high-end situation" to prevent him from declaring for the 2023 NFL draft, and he will "take a week" to evaluate all of his options before making a decision.
So, it was anticipated the early part of January Hartman would make a decision plus I imagine he wanted to wait until after the holidays.

Hartman could potentially do big things with an offense like ND's. He was the all time ACC leader. Imagine if his offensive players had been as talented as ND's. That's a scary thought.
It makes sense that it's a done deal to ND, and they're just being discreet and low-profile about it. Because otherwise ND hasn't being doing shit when it comes to recruiting a transfer QB, when it was made such public knowledge that we did want one, enough so that our starting QB himself left the program in disgust at the news.
So it adds up logically, that we already have something in place, in addition to this very confident, highly-placed rumor/leak that SH to ND was a done deal.

Buchner will be good for Hartman. The threat of pulling him for Buchner will haunt him all season. He will have to play his best. If Hartman is the real deal, he will appreciate the pressure ND brings and realize it's his best option to get into the NFL.
