11-1 Is No Longer An Option

At the outset of the season, an 11–1 record gave us a playoff shot. Not a lock, but a shot. After yesterday’s win, I don’t think that is the case anymore.

ND has to run the table to get into the playoff. 12-0 or bust.

First off, our remaining schedule doesn’t have a ranked opponent as of now. There is no way to recover from a loss should we stumble.

Second, there will be too many good conference champs with 0 or 1 loss.

SEC: Alabama is in unless they lose twice
How is Georgia not getting in?

B1G: OSU clear leader

Big 12: Oklahoma or WVU. One of them is likely to earn a spot.

ACC: Clemson looking shaky. A loss could knock the ACC out of the picture.

PAC 12: Out as of now.

I’m not stupid. I know the teams ahead of us will shuffle as teams lose. If we are 12-0 we’re in. It’s the 11-1. I just don’t think that gets us in anymore because that loss would be a bad loss no matter who it is anymore.

While we don’t have any ranked teams left to play (I think VTech is), the schedule going forward is filled with land mines.

Syracuse
VTech
Navy
Northwestern
USC
FSU

any of those team can be a tough win. Most of them are on the road and injuries are starting to pile up. Be careful Irish.
