Really? Where was Jesus on those two interceptions? You’re kidding me.

Just FYI, Notre Dame is a Catholic University. Players are usually Christian.

He’s saying that his faith guided and strengthened him in the face of adversity.
I don't care what anyone's religion is, but I wonder how it feels to be a player on the losing team, who is equally convinced that God is looking out for his team.

I didn’t say that Jesus helped ND win. All I said was that Leonard prayed for strength.
Yes, I understood you. I probably should not have hit reply... because I was just making a general comment about how born-again Christians like to thank God for giving them the victory and across the field you may have a guy who is equally pious who is left scratching his head.

You never hear losing players saying "...all credit tonight goes to my Lord and savior Jesus Christ..."

Really? Are they like, atheists at LSU or something? I think most football programs are pretty reliably christian, as far as it goes. If anything ND players might be less christian, on account of they're all like, enlightened, and intellectual and they have to go to class. And I think ND prides itself on exposing its charges to all kinds of philosophical tastes shall we say. So you might have the occasional crisis of faith more frequently at ND than you would at some secular state U.

You don't have to be an atheist to go to LSU, but you might have to be a southern baptist. Actually Louisiana is totally catholic, like the one Catholic stronghold in the otherwise Protestant south.

Pretty sure those kids are very grateful to have had the chance to play in the Sugar Bowl and realize that there are much more important things in life.

That was a George Carlin bit. Christian athletes! They're quick to thank him in the throes of victory, but you never see his name get dropped when they lose. But I think it's been nuanced and smoothed out over time. Now it's like, thanks for giving me the strength. No one's guaranteed a victory, and god don't play favorites, but I do appreciate being able to enjoy god's grace. It helps, let's just say it helps....

I was addressing the OP and his original comments..

Where in there did I say athletes from other schools weren’t Christian?

Irish Mike, Congratulations! I was wondering who was going to respond that way.
Oh , and by the way ?
Very Christlike.

Well George Carlin has not only been classless but wrong more times than not, and obviously knows little about this. For if he would of looked he would of seen many Christians school if not all took a knee after the game whether they won or loss.

We're literally at the fake 2nd coming which will happen before 2030 and you're both bringing up nonsense.

I gotta say, that is an excellent post on the subject of George Carlin, who I am a particular admirer of. Classless and wrong more often than not. I think he would have appreciated that.

Remember what Lou said “God doesn’t care who wins the game, but his mother sure does”. LOL

I was a high school kicker and missed THE kick on the final play of the biggest game of the year. My coach took me to breakfast the next week and flat out told me he was glad I was the one who lost the game. He said that with the intensity and the stakes of the game he was genuinely worried about the mental/emotional health (I'm sure he phrased it differently back then, but you get the idea) of whoever blamed themselves afterwards. Said he didn't have the same worries for me because he knew how strong my faith was.

People who think that crediting Jesus is about wins and losses just don't get it.

This is just one example, so the idea that athletes don’t thank Jesus when they lose is made up horseshit. I’m not an overly religious person, but it does bother me when people trash devout religious people. Wtf do you care who they thank and how they reconcile their lives?

You feel good about yourself putting Christ down?? God isn't concerned about football. He's concerned about people and their need for Him in their lives. I admire Leonard witnessing his faith and there are many others on the team like him. Their faith in God comes before any football. God has blessed them with talents to use in a purposeful manner and trusting in Him alone. So maybe you ought to stop and ponder on your faith or lack thereof.

As Lou used to say, maybe Jesus or God don’t care about ND but the Blessed Mother does

This is downright ridiculous.

We don’t praise the Lord our Savior only in the good, we praise him in the bad as well.

An ultimate test of a man’s faith in God is what he does when things are against him. That’s what this young man did.

Interesting side note. I read that 3 of the 4 teams left in the playoff this week had as many as 50 plus players involved in weekly bible study and faith groups (ND/OSU/UT).

I think that’s a phenomenal trend and it seems to have had a great impact on those teams success.

I pray for the teams health and success every week.

It’s not just “born-agains”. I’d argue any devout or authentic Christian would praise God win or lose. That’s what we teach in our home. When I’ve had successes I give god glory, when things go against me, I give god thanks and ask for his continued protection and blessings.

False, I listened to two Texas players give glory to God on stage after their loss to OSU.

Derwin James gave God glory tonight after
they lost to the Texans. He thanks God for the opportunities he’s had.

You don’t hear/see it because YOU aren’t paying attention.
